"Friday Night in the Park Concert"

The concert was a typical outdoor twilight event till Toby Roktot and his brothers grabbed the stage and couldn't (we wouldn't let them) leave. They aren't actually brothers, I don't think, but they do share their last name.
The band is from the Carolinas and recently has been touring in Australia. Their song delivery is reminiscent of the machine gun rapid fire of the Ramones, but more palatable to ones senses. They are still relatively unknown in the states, but if the band stays true to their fans this will change. Check out the singles When (will icu again) and Girl. Great stuff. - Bootleg Magazine

"One Liner Review"

“ Definitely like it. Kinda sounds a little like Dire Staights mixed with somethin' else? But, good music! ” - The Screw

"One Liner Review"

“ GOOD STUFF, LIKE THE RAMONES, ONLY YOU CAN TELL WHAT THEY’RE SINGING ” - Westword

"One Liner Review"

hmmmmm, I like it but I can't figure out why! Kinda like a ford, not better, just different. The track Lucky in Love sounds pure Nashville. (by tom) - Digstation review

TOBY ROKTOT - Live-N-Alice (tobyroktot.com)
At first, you’re gonna think that Toby Roktot are another one of those lunkheaded bands that take themselves WAY TOO SERIOUSELY!- But once you hear songs like “Ready to Rok,” “Rumble Tonight,” or “Her World,” you’re gonna get it. This four piece band, all with the last name Roktot (in tribute to the Ramones), are masters of their domain. They are not in pursuit of The Holy Riff - they play simple, meat and potatoes (hold the gravy), rock ’n’ roll without the strobe lights and lasers. Toby Roktot have a maximum approach to minimalism.- That is, they did find The Holy Grail, of sorts. They know how to talk TO an audience (this is a live album), not AT them. The dig out the sustenance from every song with the energy of a band like The Supersuckers, tempered by the lead singers (Toby Roktot), controlled vocals. He sounds like Dickie Barrett from the Bosstones, on a good day. Thus armed, this live slice of the band’s catalog is a good place to start if you’re looking for the real deal when it comes to basic rock ‘n’ roll!

"The Grouchy Gaijin"

I like this album. I like this band. Would I pay ten bones for this album? Yeah, I think I would. Would I go see them play a show. Yes and I hope they come to Sweden so I can. It's not all peaches and cream though. I like their music, but the vocals bugged me a bit. Toby can sing, but the stuff might sound better with a different singer.

So what kind of music is this? Pretty much straight up rock and roll. I like that. There is no preaching or political message. Nothing bugs me more than some guy hitting me over the head with his political beliefs as if he were some sort of sage just because he can strum a guitar. Toby Roktot's music reminds me of John Mellencamp without all the political crap thrown in.

I like their guitar a lot. Robby can play and the band has enough sense to let him have room to do his thing. I really like the slide guitar on the track titled Rumble Tonight. I also think the rhythm section is right on – the bottom is there and the drummer keeps time. What else can you ask for? If you are looking for complicated Jazz/Rock keep looking. If you want snide commentary by a socially enlightened wind bag out to inflict Social Justice on the world keep looking. If however you want a solid rock and roll album by a band with an ax man that can wail and a band that is having a blast go ahead and fork over the cash for this one.

Bio

Toby Roktot was the original drummer for the hard rock band Rok Tots, with his band brothers, Jif, Ronnie and Jimi. Their stage shows are legendary. After moving on from the Tots, Toby experimented in the Nashville sound with recording group,The Shadow Riders with Greg Carlin. The Nashville sound suited Toby's interests in music and the singer/songwriter acoustic set lends itself to solo touring without all the drag and drama of a band.......
Toby briefly rejoined the Rok Tots for an Australian tour in 2010. This tour produced the album "Live in Alice". The tour also reaffirmed to Toby that the drag and drama of a band was still undesirable!!!
