"Mixtape Review : Royce Castro - The Gil Cobain Hendrix Ep"

See it, think it, believe it…. take the steps to do it. You can achieve it.

Royce Castro knows his worth and wants to move in a positive direction. Overall I give the tape a solid 6.5/10 from listening to it one time. Here’s my review of Royce Castro’s Xperience: Gil Cobain Hendrick’s EP.

Production

AraabMuzik

Cookin‘ Soul

Lynex Da General

Hanbook

The Tucker Brothers

The production on the project grabbed my attention with the variety of producers and styles. It’s always refreshing to hear new production as well as some veteran producers. The track elevated (produced by AraabMuzik) wss one of my favorite tracks on the project. The overall feeling I had from listening to this song was just amazing.

Elevated (A Sky Life Love Story) Lyricism: 7/10 – Production: 8/10 – Vocals: 9/10 – Overall: 8.7/10

Going back one track to track #7, I really dig this track and Cookin’ Soul’s production. Royce puts out some meaningful bars and a strong chorus to go along with it.

So Many Scenes (Produced By Cookin’ Soul) Lyricism: 8/10 – Production: 8/10 - Chorus: 9/10 – Overall: 8.99

The mixtape represents ambitions, dreams, and staying above the negativity. Royce isn’t a technical lyricist but the simplicity is what attracts a listener to the project. Overall I give the mixtape a 7.89/10. My first rating of 6.5 was a review after only 1 listen. After listening to the project 2-3 times, my interest picked up and made the tape an overall success. - Craig Lee

"Royce Castro - Faded 4ever"

Royce Castro has been causing a quiet riot over the last year. From several features on Coast 2 Coast mixtapes to radio play in Atlanta to acting in USA Network's Necessary Roughness, Royce has been hard at work on raising awareness of his abilities. While work has certainly been done, fans have been itching for more frequent releases from the New Jersey spitter. I've heard a few tracks from the upcoming project, at various stages of development, but there was one thing consistent about everything I listened to and that was that Royce was on fire.

"Faded 4Ever" is the latest release and as right as rain, Royce gets busy on the lyrical work and production from Linx Da General is sharp as well. Right from the jump, Royce attacks the verses with the same hunger we've come to expect from him. He bounces back and forth between uptempo and down tempo deliveries and it comes together seamlessly. He really can do anything. - Rox Fontaine

"Royce Castro The Gil Cobain Hendrix review"

Sehr sehr dope EP - Good Tapes

"Knarley Knew Music Tuesdays"

Royce Castro releases his latest project Xperience Gil Cobin Hendrick EP 1/21/2013, the project is release on an The Historic Martin Luther King Holiday and  The Inauguration of our President Barack Obama. Listening to the EP I will have to say it lived up to the momentum of this day, with soulful lyrics and beats that will make you feel as thought its classic 1980's, Royce has capture the very essences of Old and New School Hip hop with his new release. Royce EP has many songs that will appeal to his fans. With songs like Built 4 Something Special and Mission: Ambitious which touches on not giving up your dreams even though there maybe obstacles, also there is something for the ladies such as Elevated which display Royce smoother. Check out the link below to form your own opinion.

Royce Castro is Knarley Approved  - Knarley

"Royce Castro faded 4ever"

Royce Castro has been causing a quiet riot over the last year. "Royce Castro Black Bill Gates"

Lyrical exercise. It's like any other thing that you want to be good at. You have to practice. Just as a basketball player works until muscle memory takes over; an MC must write and record until it's second nature.

New Jersey MC Royce Castro has been slamming the web with previously unreleased tracks, music videos and freestyles for that last few months and the streets are starting to listen. Royce is a throwback to a less tainted time in Hip-Hop. Smooth delivery over head nod material is the mode and it's definitely refreshing to hear.

With this latest release, "Black Bill Gates", Royce shows his versatility and toys around with 16th timing. Click below to listen and download. - Rox Fontaine

"Royce Castro Cream Dreamz Freestyle"

Royce has been bombarding the web with new music and this freestyle hit the web last night around midnight. I was scrambling to get a post up but my computer was a little...ummm...blue in the face. Here's the track over another sampling of this slightly eerie song "Huit Octobre 1971" that I've heard several times on different tracks.

As is standard fare for Royce, he puts his signature delivery on it and it's lyrically outstanding. As he says himself, "I'm cursed with being lyrical." Well, Brother, if being nice is wrong; you don't want to be right. - Rox Fontaine

"Royce Castro The Gil Cobain Hendrix Ep"

There are scores of rappers out there vying for a visible space in the corner of the music industry reserved for Rap. There are all sorts of gimmicks and copycats out there so it's always a breath of fresh air to hear someone aspiring to true artistry.

Royce Castro is one such ambitious MC. I happen to know that this project was carefully thought out and crafted for long standing impact. I'm sure that sounds cliche but I can assure you that Royce Castro is the real deal.

The title alone is very lofty and can easily workagainst an artist. Even the mention of such giants can lead a listener to a heightened expectation and subsequent hard let down. This is not the case with 'The Gil Cobain Hendrix Xperience.' Royce has an extremely passionate project on his hands that is the beginning of a truly unique style. For two prime examples, look to the Tucker Brothers produced "Built 4 Something Special" and "Blues Hip-Hop Rock & Roll." This EP is very fine introduction to the work of a true artist. - Rox Fontaine

"Royce Castro Neo2soul review"

Born and raised in New Jersey he is the definition of a versatile MC and artist as well as songwriter.

Only 2 years into the game he has the drive and talent of a seasoned veteran and its all because of his ability to have an open mind to learn and his true down to earth approach.

Rather than do what is trending in music royce does what comes from his very own heart as he calls it introducing his world to the people thru music in the world we live in where no matter the topic of a song he gives his very own point of view.

In life he has taken the worst fall ever and gives music all the credit of saving him and giving him a new found direction in life with that being said yes music is his life He often credits artist from brooklyn skyzoo 4 inspiring his career it took one day of listening to Skyzoo albumCloud 9 the 3 day high n royce was hooked.

He is also truly inspired by Jimi Hendrix which he calls his musical father along with Gil Scott Heron, Nirvana,Marvin Gaye, Al Green, Willie Hutch, Cold Play, Mayer Hawthorne, Krs One, Rakim, Big L, Camp Lo, Big Pun,Tupac.

Also Kool G Rap, Drake, Little Brother, Currensy,  Jay Electronica,  Jay Cole, Slaughter House, Redman, Wu Tang,  Ludacris, J dilla,  Nas Kanye West and so many artist who really do this from the heart not just as a gimmick. - Godfrey Fletcher

"feature for stupid dope"

The up and coming wordsmith known to the world as Bueller Da Don is back today with something new. The track is called “Let It Go” and finds the impressive lyricist linking up with Royce Castro, Ock Milly, and Mike Maxx for something incredible.

The track is driven by a smooth ass melody that gets backed up by some dope ass drum work that the fellas effortlessly place their talents upon. This shit is too dope, check it out below - Jesse james

"Picture Me Coastin"

Team Chello in the building! (virtually anyway) Royce Castro is back on the airwaves with "Picture Me Coastin." Hopping back and forth between New Jersey and Atlanta, Royce has been working hard on completing and promoting 'The Gil Cobain Hendrix Xperience EP.' While the project hasn't been made available online yet, we have a track to vibe to until it is.

"Picture Me Coastin" is another dope display of Royce's rhyme style. It definitely carries heavier influence from his time spent in Atlanta but it's still signature Royce Castro music. - Rox Fontaine

Royce Castro Never Lacks Influence

“Everything I encounter inspires me which is why I’ve never been able to grasp how artists talk about the same stuff. There’s too much going on in life to not have a wide variety of content.”

Check out the interview with Royce Castro exclusively on Skilly Magazine Online.

Skilly: How were you able to start your journey in the entertainment business? Where did this all start?
Royce Castro: I was able to start 4 years ago. This is year 5.

What are some of the creative ways you use to promote your music?
Social media is the biggest thing in music today, but the biggest thing is being independent. Being independent allows you to work freely for yourself by setting your own deadlines. All profits that you make are 100% yours. Another way I promote heavy is doing live shows. The money is in the shows.

What is the greatest challenge you face in today’s entertainment business? How do you overcome them?
In entertainment I wouldn’t call them challenges. It’s more annoying than anything. In entertainment today it isn’t about talent anymore. It just seems like today everyone follows a trend trying to make the big buck fast. Many artists aren’t giving themselves time to develop and before you know it they fade off fast.

How is the music scene like in your hometown? What do you like about it and what don’t you like?
The music scene where I’m from is great. I’m from Lawnside, NJ. When it’s all said and done the world is gonna know about my borough. There are many dope artists in the south Jersey area, enough to say we are more talented than a lot of artists signed and unsigned. Only problem is we don’t have a major radio station.

Where do you think the future of music is going to be? How do you feel artists can be more a part of it?
I think the future of hip hop is headed in a great direction. I do feel like a lot of rappers are just rapping with absolutely no knowledge of the field they’ve chosen to enter. Hip hop is a way of life, you’re supposed to know who paved the way. You can tell what artists take their craft serious because you can hear the growth, originality, and passion.

What advice can you give to other upcoming artists and musicians trying to achieve success?
Don’t sign anything, study, learn, and practice. There will be times where you will doubt yourself, but if you wanna be successful music life is a very long marathon. I strongly urge artists to be themselves and you’ll automatically set yourselves apart.

What inspires you to write your next song?
Whatever I’m going through. I’m simply inspired by life itself, no matter what it is. Everything I encounter inspires me which is why I’ve never been able to grasp how artists talk about the same stuff. There’s too much going on in life to not have a wide variety of content.

What are the steps you take to make a song?
I simply listen to beats and if it talks to me and if my thoughts match, I start going in.

What do you think makes a great song?
Focus and having a clear mind, taking risks, allowing yourself to evolve.

Where can we connect with you? Can you give us your social media links and where we can contact you?

"Royce Castro Album Gil Cobain Hendrix on The Source Magazine"

Hailing from Lawnside, New Jersey Royce Castro isn’t your typical hiphop/Rap artist. The Gil Cobain Hendrix Stoners Edition has a wide variety of great music so many different topics great production (The Tucker Brothers, Cookin Soul , Araabmuzik etc) and dope lyrics no matter the topic of each song there is a guarantee of bars lyrically and sonically it’s ahead of its time. The album was titled Gil Cobain Hendrix after Gil Scott Heron, Kurt Cobain, & Jim Hendrix which from a life and musical standpoint happens to be Royce’s biggest influences that’s why it’s musical containing so many different sounds.

From a life a standpoint Royce really admires the iconic legends free thinking and how they viewed the world through their own eyes which he learned from upbringing in Lawnside 1st but took a liking to these artist and the extremely positive influence they had on ppl all over the world. The records Yourz Truly, Rebel 4Life, Rollin Stoned, Blue Dr3ams & Angels, Ms. Universe are all produced by The Tucker Brothers are classic. Xperience: Gil Cobain Hendrix is produced by Araab Muzik happens to be a dance/electronica beat which Royce flips into his own version of a Rockstar lifestyle type track .

Royce Castro is one of the hardest working rising new talents in this business. He’s opened for rap legend Scarface in the past and much more. Look forward to more video content and more shows and more. Enjoy the album below.
