"Samantha LaPorta's Perfect Wave"

Samantha LaPorta is savoring every second of summer – her last summer of high school – with a brand-new feel-good single she co-wrote that she hopes you’ll add to your beach playlist.
Don’t miss a beat! Click HERE to become a BELLA Insider!

Produced by Matt Wong and Eddie Gomez, “Wave” is the follow-up to “Own the Night,” LaPorta’s previous single that remained in the top 30 on Radio Disney for 16 weeks.

“I think everything about this song is like riding that perfect wave,” says LaPorta. “The lyrics and music work awesome together and it is one of those songs you can’t stop humming.”

We spoke to the teen music queen from her Florida home.

How do you discover new music?

I think discovering a new artist is very exciting! I search different genres and playlists and share my new finds with friends.

What song instantly puts you in a good mood?

Anything by Tame Impala! Love him!

What is on your bookshelf?

I like books about self-love and confidence. Recently, though, I’ve fallen in love with vinyl so my bookshelves are filled with records and a record player.

What can you not miss on TV?

Fixer Upper. It’s definitely my guilty pleasure.

What is your greatest indulgence?

I have to have some form of chocolate every day.

What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you?

I’m really into BuzzFeed, investigative reporting and I’m fascinated by the discoveries in outer space and in our oceans.

What superstitions do you believe in?

I don’t have any superstitions. I’m more of an “everything happens for a reason” kind of person.

What item in your closet do you wear the most?

Anything denim! I never leave the house without one item that’s denim and just the other day, I treated myself to a pair of white Balenciaga’s that I’m crazy for.

Do you have a secret talent?

I can imitate a baby crying. It’s so silly but my friends ask me to do it again and again until we can’t stop laughing.

Who do you follow on Twitter?

Ariana Grande. I have followed her since her Victorious days. I’m a huge fan.

Who are your heroes?

My parents, for sure. I wouldn’t be able to do half the stuff I’m doing without them.

Tell us about your new single, Wave.

Wave is super fun-in-the-sun-with-your-BFFs type of song but it’s also a metaphor for going after your dreams and riding the wave to the top. It has a fun vibe, perfect for summer.

Is the single playing on the radio?

Hopefully soon on Radio Disney, but you can catch “Wave” on the Radio Disney Spotify Playlist now.

Do you plan to tour this summer?

I’m performing shows in Florida this summer andI definitely want to tour, but first I’m working on songs for an EP and writing in Los Angeles, New York and Nashville.

"Teen Music Queen - Samantha LaPorta"

POPRadio Disney’s Teen Music Queen, Samantha LaPorta, Releases Summer Single, “Wave”Published 7 months ago on June 7, 2019By Erick Ycaza
Samantha LaPorta
Pop singer Samantha LaPorta returns to radio this summer with “Wave”, her new song that encourages young fans to catch their dream wave and ride it all the way to the top. Samantha co-wrote the song with producers Matt Wong and Eddie Gomez. “I wanted to create the vibe of all those fun in the sun beach movies, where everyone is hanging out with their BFF’s, playing volleyball, surfing, watching sunsets and dancing around bonfires,” she explains. “Wave” will be Samantha LaPorta’s fifth single going to Pop radio.

“I think everything about this song is like riding that perfect wave,” continues Samantha from her home in Northwest Florida. “The lyrics and music work awesome together to create a fun beach vibe and I threw in a few whistle tones just for kicks. ‘Wave’ is one of those songs you can’t stop humming. It’s truly a feel-good track.”

“Wave” follows Samantha’s past Radio Disney hits, including “Own the Night,” another song co-written with and produced by Wong and Gomez that remained in the Top 30 on Radio Disney for 16 weeks. The teen music queen currently boasts over half a million streams on Spotify.

Samantha’s artistic process starts with a cool beat that she then layers with meaningful lyrics and rich harmonies. She draws inspiration from a wide array of music styles, from Amy Winehouse to Rihanna and Bruno Mars. “I’m currently obsessed with Billie Eilish, Olivia O’Brien and the new Charlie Puth song with 5SOS,” she says.

In addition to attending the eleventh grade, Samantha has spent the past year performing teen clubs and festivals across the country as well as children’s hospitals and youth charities. “I’ve learned so much from the strong, amazing kids I’ve met this year,” she reflects. “Most significantly, they have taught me the importance of living in the moment.”

That’s why she is savoring every second of this summer – her last summer of high school. “I start my senior year in the fall so I have to make this summer count,” she laughs, adding, “My biggest goal will be getting kids everywhere to add “Wave” to their beach playlists!”

“Wave” is now available on iTunes, Spotify, and all digital platforms.

Hi Samantha, please tell us a little about you?

My name is Samantha LaPorta , I’m 17 years old, from sunny Florida and you may have heard me on Radio Disney. I’m on the road a lot for music and always enjoy returning home to go to the beach with family and friends.

Describe yourself in 3 words?

Kind, supportive, visionary

How all started?

Recently found a box filled with old videos from when was about 2, making up songs and dancing around, they are hysterical, So I guess music has always been a part of me.

The 1st time performing in public I was 10 it was a huge event in my hometown where everyone comes to officially start Football Season. I was asked to sing the National anthem. My parents were surprised that I could really sing. I was surprised by how many people where there.

When was it that you first realized that you wanted to pursue music as a career?

My parents took me to a concert for my 11th birthday and I was hooked, immediately started guitar and vocal lessons and a year later went to Nashville to perform in a showcase at the Hard Rock Cafe. For the past 4 years I’ve been performing at a local venue where I sing for a few hours, twice a month as well as festivals and opening for tours in the US.

Did your family support this decision?

My family is very supportive. my mom and my Aunt were Professional Dancers, and my Grandpa is a musician who toured with the big bands. They taught me early on about the hard work, and sacrifices that come with being an artist. When I was 14 my parents took me to Radio Disney to audition. It was a dream come true to hear “welcome to the Disney Family.” And like a family, Radio Disney is super supportive of my music.

What is your musical background?

I’m a singer who write songs and plays guitar. I’ve had 4 songs on Radio I’m most proud of “Don’t Say Forever” which made the Top 30 and “Own The Night” that reached #8 and in the Top 30 for 16 weeks.

That really opened some doors for me. Major League Baseball featured Own The Night on their network and I was invited to host the Top 10 show on Radio Disney.

What kind of music do you listen normally?

Fun music like early Gwen Stefani, The 1975, I love Pop, R&B and perform a lot of Rihanna and Beyoncé covers, also love Soulful songs both old and new music by artists such as; Etta James, and H.E.R. Feels so good performing their songs they are real crowd pleasers.

Tell us about your new single “Superficial?”

I was in the studio finishing up Don’t Say Forever for Radio Disney and talking with my co-writers about a relationship gone bad when they said “hop in the booth” and the words just fell out of my mouth. We had fun with the play on words and a fresh twist on a love song. It’s very empowering and has a good stay true to yourself message. I’ve heard from fans around the world about how they can relate to the lyrics and really connect with the song.

SUPERFICIAL - Samantha LaPorta

What music influences do you have?

Lana Del Rey, Billie Eilish, Ariana Granda, are all great influences because they are talented singer/songwriters.

What is your next goal as a musician?

I’ve co-written a few more songs for an EP, I can also see some of the songs doing well on a teen theme tv and movies and another song that could work as an awesome crossover collab similar to MEANT TO BE by Bebe Rexha and Florida Georgia line.

What is your own definition of happiness?

Family

What are the five things you can’t live without?

My friends, family, My phone, at least one of my Guitars and I have a cute little dog I named after Hannah Montana.

Best advice ever given?

Stay true to yourself.

Do you get nervous before a performance?

I’ve performed at small venues and huge stadiums sometimes the nerve can creep in but when I see the audience it all goes away I’m just so happy to be there.

What is next for Samantha LaPorta in 2019?

More shows, heading back to LA to write and record more music. Recently I was asked about performing in a Musical I would love to be in a Broadway show or a musical on TV.

Any advice for upcoming singers?

Stay positive.

If you weren’t singing, what would you be doing?

Something in Fashion.

What would be the dream holiday, and who would you go with?

I would love to spend the summer traveling through Europe with my close friends.

What is your favorite healthy food?

And your favorite cheat food?

What would be a deal breaker on a first date?

Lack of humor.

Radio Disney star Samantha Laporta discusses her new single

Samantha Laporta is no stranger to the music scene. Her songs have been heard on Radio Disney, and were even used on the MLB network. Now, Samantha is touring and sharing her newest song “Don’t Say Forever” with listeners. YEM spoke with Samantha about her music, her newest singe, and her upcoming projects!

Young Entertainment Mag: How did you first get involved in music?

Samantha Laporta: Most people don’t know this. When I was 10 and about to go to a new school, I wanted to start singing lessons but before that happened the instructor said, “Hey, would you sing the National Anthem at the high school?” I thought it was a Back to School – start of the football season get together, but it turned out to be one of the biggest events in my town. When I got to the field every seat was taken in the bleachers, every football team from little kids to HS Varsity and all the cheerleading squads were on the field. I heard them announce me over the PA system and my knees actually started shaking! I grabbed my moms hand and said, “ you’re coming with me” and went out and I sang for the very 1st time.

YEM: How would you describe your sound?

Samantha: My sound is pop R&B, the catchy beat you hear on radio, blended with vocals that sound more soulful. It’s super fun to add in runs and all the layers and harmonies when I’m recording.

YEM: How did you find your sound?

Samantha: I think my sound found me. I listen to many different styles of music and sing along to see what feels right and then I’ll break down the song and play it on my guitar and change it up to make it feel like it’s my own.

YEM: Our readers have heard your music on Radio Disney. Did you listen to Radio Disney growing up?

Samantha: I was recently on the radio with Morgan at RD and we were joking about how my nick name is “The Disney Girl.” I love everything Disney and always dreamed of being a Disney artist. Growing up, I listened to the radio, watched the TV shows and even imitated making the Mickey ears with the wand. I still want to do that! LOL

YEM: Did you have a favorite Radio Disney artist?

Samantha: Oh yes, Britney Spears. She received the ICON award at the RDMAs (Radio Disney Music Awards) in 2017. That was my 1st red carpet and it was super exciting to see her!

YEM: Tell us about your new song “Don’t Say Forever.”

Samatha: My Dad is from Central America so I grew up listening to Latin Music. For this one, I really wanted to write a song with that feel. While in the studio writing another song, the producers and I started talking about relationships and how many of my friends were graduating and going off to college. It was an emotional time for me as, for the first time, I could see the changes they were happening and how once solid relationships would soon be growing apart. That’s what “Don’t Say Forever” is about: the promises we make as kids but can’t keep because lives inevitably change as we grow older.

YEM: Will you release a music video for “Don’t Say Forever” soon?

Samantha: I really wanted to but my schedule lately has been kinda crazy. Just in the last few weeks, I’ve performed Miami, New Jersey and Nashville. Performing shows while also in high school doesn’t leave me much time. Instead, I did a crazy photo shoot that had swings inside the building and we made a fun lyric video from the photos that you can see on Youtube. I’ve also been posting pics from the shows and all the fun people I’ve been meeting on my Instagram!

YEM: What’s next for you? Will you be touring or releasing more music soon?

Samantha: I’m releasing some new music in early 2019. I’ve been writing a lot and these latest recordings makes me want to jump up and dance! They’re so fun. I can’t wait to share. I’m also crazy about Christmas so I’m looking forward to a festive season with my family and friends.

YEM: Finally, if you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be?
Samantha: Right now, I’m listening to a lot of Bazzi. He’s got that cool chill vibe. I would really love to collab with him. Santa, if you’re reading this, how about making that wish come true? - Young Entertainment

"RADIO DISNEY TEEN QUEEN SAMANTHA LAPORTA TALKS WITH TMI ABOUT HER LATEST SINGLE “OWN THE NIGHT”"

INTERVIEWS
RADIO DISNEY TEEN QUEEN SAMANTHA LAPORTA TALKS WITH TMI ABOUT HER LATEST SINGLE “OWN THE NIGHT”
AINSLEY HUTTO | 10 August, 2018 at 08:40 885

What inspired you to pursue music at such a young age?

I went to a concert for my 10th birthday. After that, I told my parents, “this is what I want to do.” I must have been pretty persistent because I started guitar and vocal lessons and a year later played my first showcase at the HardRock in Nashville.

How would you describe your musical style?

I am a pop artist with R&B in my heart. I grew up with a lot of Latin music played in my home so I’m very passionate about my music and heritage.

What artists do you look up to right now?

There are so many amazing artists out there right now! I love Bruno Mars. Not only is he a fantastic performer, he writes his music and can kill it on the guitar. I was invited to the Radio Disney Music awards where Janet Jackson was honored and I was blown away by her. She is so kind and gracious and a true icon of pop music.

You recently released your new single “Own The Night” and it’s gotten an amazing reaction from your supporters. What has been your thought about the reaction of the new single?

Radio Disney gave “Own The Night” a lot of love. It played all day and everyday for 16 weeks. I would hear from fans every day, telling me how they loved the song. They sent me videos singing, jumping up and down with their friends. What was super cool is they kept requesting it! It became one of the top requested songs on Radio Disney’s “Total Request Now.” I would jump up and down every time it was the top requested song! It was so exciting!

Can you tell us the meaning behind “Own The Night”?

It’s a hang out with your friends song. When I wrote it, I was in LA, in the recording studio, missing my friends, and thinking about what we would do when I got home. I couldn’t wait to drive down to the beach with the music playing and my hair blowing in the wind! “Own The Night” became THAT song: the fun vibin’ with your friends song.

Your song has been in the top 10 on the Radio Disney playlist and the top requested song of the week, six weeks in a row. What do you hope to gain from his huge accomplishment?

I was told by people in the biz how hard it would be for an independent artist to get on a major radio station and how it would be near impossible to break into the Top 10. Having Radio Disney believe in me and welcome me into their family is huge. Then to have the amazing support of the fans who took me to #8… WOW! Makes me want to work that much harder.

Are you planning to perform your new song live anytime soon?

I play 1-2 shows a week. I love when the crowd sings along. When they know the words to my songs, oh my gosh, there’s nothing better.

How do you want your relationship to be with your supporters?

I think of my supporters and fans as friends. Its great hearing from them. Some I see at shows, others reach out on Instagram or leave messages on my YouTube and Twitter. I love hearing from them.

What was the craziest fan encounter you have had?

At a recent show, a man requested a song to propose! I got my guitar and sang Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud.” The couple danced in front of the stage and right at the perfect part of the song, he got down on one knee and she said yes!

What social media platform do you use most to stay connected to your supporters?

I’m on all platforms but hear from fans mostly on Instagram, Youtube and Twitter.

Are there any other projects in the works you can tell us about?

I’m in production on 3 new songs I wrote this summer. Each has its own vibe from chill R&B Pop to a little Latina groove to a straight up pop song that will make you want to jump up and dance. I’m really excited and can’t wait to share very soon.

Do you have any last things you want to tell your supporters?

Thank you for pressing play and letting me know how the songs make you feel. I am so thankful for your support.

Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to do this interview with us.

Thank you very much. XoXo Samantha - Teen Insider Magazine

The song was also recently chosen to be on a MLB (Major League Baseball) highlight mashup sizzle reel.

We recently had the chance to quiz Samantha about ‘Own The Night’, her Radio Disney success, staying grounded and much more.

Welcome to CelebMix Samantha! First off, please introduce yourself to our readers with an unusual fact about yourself.

Hi! I’m Samantha LaPorta and I live in Pensacola, FL; in a very rural area with some of the most beautiful beaches in the U.S.

Congratulations on your latest single ‘Own The Night’. What has the response been like so far?

The response has been great! It’s one of the top requested song by fans on Radio Disney’s Total Request Now.

Can you tell us a bit about the song and the inspiration behind it?

I wanted to capture the energy of the summer vibe, hanging with friends into the night…

The track encourages us to live life to the full and experience things outside of the social media bubble. How important was it for you to release a song with such a strong message?

It’s incredibly important that kids have a track like ‘Own the Night’ that helps them escape the daily routine of being on their phones and on social media and encourages them to just let loose.

You’ve released a lyric video for the song, are there any plans for an official video?

I have lots of ideas for a video but we are still deciding on putting one together. Stay tuned.

‘Own The Night’ has achieved some incredible stuff on Radio Disney. How does it feel to have such support from them?

Being part of the Disney family means so much to me. The fans are amazing. Having OTN requested by fans and move up the charts is awesome and then to be asked to do the Radio Disney- MLB Mashup is very exciting as well. This whole feeling is like a dream come true!!

The track was also recently chosen to be on a MLB highlight reel – I imagine it must feel quite surreal to hear your song played in various situations?

You’ll be attending the Radio Disney Music Awards this weekend, are you looking forward?

The Radio Disney Music Awards are the best. Last year I met so many artists. This year I’m excited to see Janet Jackson and all the other artists that I follow throughout the year on Radio Disney. It’s my favorite day of the year!!!

You’re 16 years old and growing up in a very pressurized industry. How do you stay grounded?

I have two amazing parents that keep me grounded and friends that have never changed how they treat me, no matter if I’m on the radio or not.

You take inspiration from the likes of Amy Winehouse, Rihanna and Bruno Mars. What is it about those artists that inspires you musically?

I love that they all write their songs and I am a big fan of their vocals. It inspires to work that much harder.

You’ve been writing a lot out in LA. How has the city influenced your songwriting?

I love the energy of LA. I try to feel that same vibe in my songs. There’s something about writing in perfect weather and surrounded by so much music royalty in Hollywood.

What can we expect from you in the future music-wise? Are you working towards an EP or an album?

I’m in the studio now working on new music always trying to create something new and exciting. The plan is to eventually put together an EP for my fans.

What would be your biggest achievement as an artist?

Hearing myself on Radio Disney and then hearing Taylor Swift come on right after me is pretty surreal.

Finally, do you have a message for your fans?

I love hearing from my fans on social media and responding to them and the way they connect with my music. I look forward to getting on the road and meeting them in person in their city!
