A Discussion on Marriage & Divorce – EpiloguePosted By from May 28, 2011This was an incredible week of conversation! When Sammy approached me with this idea, I had no clue what to expect. I’m so encouraged by how respectful and open everyone was. I felt it was a great reflection of how we should treat each other as brothers and sisters in Christ. At the beginning of the week, I showed Emmitt Fowler, a friend at FamilyLife Ministries, what was happening with this blog and asked if he had any resources we could point people to. Here’s what he responded with: ____________________________________________________________________________ It’s taken me a few days but I was able to take a look at the blog. It looks like you and Sammy have created a lot of great dialog… …A great book for people contemplating divorce is Before The Last Resort by George Kenworthy. Another book My wife and I recommend a lot to couples (not just those in struggling marriages, but everyone) is called Two Hearts Praying As One by Dennis & Barbara Rainey. One simple thing that many couples could do to improve their marriage is pray together every day. It sounds simple – and it is – but I believe it would make a huge difference if people practiced it. I also agree that Gary Chapman’s book [the 5 love languages] is a great place to start. Like you said, it helps you get to know your spouse and the way THEY like to be loved. My wife and I have used an article written by Dennis & Barbara called “Six Steps to Resolving Conflict in Marriage” in some of the pre-marriage mentoring we have done. It’s practical, common sense stuff but good. Here’s the link. Also, we have a new way to access some of the best FamilyLife Today radio programs – it’s the Topical Audio Library at our website. Hopefully this will give some direction to helpful resources for some of your readers. Keep it up, Dan! You’re doing a great job encouraging others and setting an example worth following! Let me know what else I can do for you. Take care, my friend. Emmitt Additional resources: Article by Dennis Rainey: * What Does the Bible Say About Divorce? When Is It Allowed? Thank you all again for a wonderful week of important discussion! God Bless, |
