Dan vs Bikeman

Posted By from March 15, 2010

The last few days have gone by peacefully.  We left Bakersfield and made our way up to the Pacific Northwest.  Spent the evening in Portland, walking around downtown and eating Mac n’ Cheese.  In a vast improvement, we were only heckled one time during the visit; by a guy riding away on a bike.  It was a weak heckle too. “Safety in Numbers!” He shouted at the 8 of us.

Safety on wheels, bikeman!

Wish I‘d thought to say that… Why can’t a comeback reach my brain 10 seconds before it does?  James 3:8…I know. I know…tame the tongue.  Still, it’d be so awesome.

For fun, does anybody have a good comeback for the bikeman? Or a good comeback story in general?  Or for the better behaved, a good taming-the-tongue story?

The next day was in Kennewick, Washington.  I roasted 8 lbs of coffee outside while everyone thought the building was on fire.  Sorry everyone.

It was an incredible show and a much needed shot in the arm.  112 people signed up for Mocha Club that night…the most in one show so far.  Mocha Club is an organization that helps with different service projects in Africa.  The idea is that for the cost of 2 mochas, $7, you can do radical things to save people’s lives.  Sammy Adebiyi (add-eh-bee) is on tour with us again, speaking on their behalf.  I love hearing him speak.  All the money raised during the tour will go directly to digging wells in Jach, Darfur in the Sudan.  Find out about Mocha Club here.

The next day was another good one in Lake Stevens, Washington, near Seattle.  We hitched a ride and spent a few hours downtown.  Matt bought a cool jacket.  I bought a book.  We drank some Stumptown Coffee. We went to the fish market.  We saw some pirates riding on both a fire-truck and boat-car called “Moby-Duck.”  We covered just about everything we’d like to cover with an afternoon in Seattle.

What else is new…in our downtime, Sammy and I have talked about writing books.  Pray for us in that endeavor.  Pete, Matt, and I went from never playing video games to a full-blown addiction to NHL 2010.  I keep winning…I’m starting to get cocky. I’ll probably start losing soon…

And that brings us up to today.  With no more land to drive west on, we’ve turned the convoy around and are headed back east.  Today we’re in Wyoming.  I’ve already seen a heard of antelope.

Good times.

Dan
