I guess it’s still Jocks vs Bands Nerds

Posted By from February 1, 2010

10 years out of high school and they’re still segregating sports and music.  The music kids in one corner, the basketball kids in the rest of the gym.  Where is Connersvine when you need them? Oh ya, going to the Superbowl again.  Go Colts

For the record, even though I’m band nerd to the core (my senior year of high school band, I was elected marching band president…snort, push up glasses, wipe snot on sleeve), I love sporting events.  Actually, part of the fun in marching band was going to the football games.  We lost a lot, but the atmosphere was exciting.  Also growing up near Columbus and going to Buckeyes games…insane.  100,000+ people all dressed in scarlet & gray, causing a ruckus, celebrating because we always win   Football fan or not, it is electrifying.  There’s nothing like it.  Where else on earth can one experience this many people gathered in one place, united for a single thing?
That’s an interesting thought actually to relate to Matthew 18:20 where Jesus says, “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them (KJV).”  Sporting events don’t exactly qualify for “in my name,” but if the energy at a stadium on gameday is even remotely a keyhole glimpse at heaven…and there will be a few more than 100,000 gathered…it’s going to be incredible.  I think we’re going to need more than 5 senses to take it all in.  All that and heaven is our home, not earth…

So back to this D-league basketball game.  Fort Wayne Mad Ants versus the Iowa Energy.  In the end, the Ants lost.  It was sad.  The Mad Ant mascot was stomping around with fury and riding his tricycle very upset like.

After the game, we played.  We’ve performed at hockey games and baseball games, but this was our first ever basketball game.  It was also my first show in a month.  I was chomping at the bit to warm those 6550s up and crank my volume all the way to 2 (Geek talk: 6550’s are bass amp tubes.  They’re large and help my amp sound loud. Because they’re so awesome, I can only turn up to 2 out of 10 before hands start covering ears).  It was a fun night close to home.  I was tucking myself into my own bed by 1:30am.

Here was the setlist
Turn On The Lights
Everything About You
I Want To Get Lost
I’m Not Alright
The Redeemer
Lead Me (acoustic)
Whatever You’re Doing
Don’t Give Up
We Need Each Other
Forgiven
The Face Of Love
