I Roast Coffee!

Posted By from March 11, 2010

I’ve been catching flack from the other guys in the band about not promoting my coffee roasting enough.  They’ve been trying to help me out in radio interviews, on twitter…all over the place.  So here is an attempt to get them off my case.
Ready? Here it goes…

I roast coffee.  You should try some.

How was that?  Should I elaborate a little bit?
It’s true. I’m a coffee geek.  I worked at Starbucks for about 4 years and used to get it for free.  Once I quit to join the band, I lost my hookup.  I needed a fix for my fix.  As with most things I get interested in, I ended up researching the history of coffee.  Then I wondered more about where it grows and how we get it.  I learned that most the coffee I drink is stale.  It’s not that it’s bad; it’s just lost most of its original flavor.  This made me wonder what coffee was supposed to taste like.  I bought a small roaster and started doing it myself.  Turns out that just-roasted coffee is really good.

I wouldn’t call myself an expert, just a hobbyist.  I’ve gotten a little better at the craft though (aka: I set off less smoke alarms) and thought it might be fun to offer it to any other coffee fans that might be interested.

Right now I have some beans from Guatemala that I’ve been roasting to a medium level.  I generally try to roast to a level that highlights the flavor of the region where the bean came from.  This way I can taste the difference of coffee grown in Central America versus that in Africa, Indonesia, South America, etc.

So if you’d like to try some of the Guatemala, you can order it on my blog.  I’ll roast and ship asap.  Once I run out of that particular bean, I’ll order another one and post it when I get it.

So that’s it.  That’s my pitiful attempt at self-promotion.  Does anyone else have an interesting hobby?

Buy some coffee!
