Creation West, Lost Luggage, and "Baseball's Best Burger" - 7.26/27.09July 26, 2009This weekend was a long one, but it was equally good. We flew to Seattle, WA in the shiniest Southwest plane ever. I think every person in every band loves going to Creation West festival. For anyone like us who grew up in the Midwest, the Northwest looks like this: Ridiculous right? It's at this place called "The Gorge" and it's just outside the city of George. So if you enjoy rhymes and funny city names, we spent the day at The Gorge in George...Washington. Hanging out on stage before soundcheck I kind of look cool in the photo so follow me on Twitter! Haha. (thanks chris) If you can read my terrible handwriting, these were the songs we played. It's also a picture of my tuner and Bass overdrive pedal (for when it's time to rock), but nevermind that. We played two new songs (Lead Me and These Things Take Time). I think they went well and it was fun playing new material. We didn't get to stay very long though because we had an over-night flight to St. Louis. After spending the night in an airplane we made it. Unfortunately our luggage didn't. We had our guitars, but didn't have any clothes, gear, or merchandise. The airline (AirTran) couldn't get it to us until Monday which was no good since our show was Sunday. This isn't the first time an airline has lost (or broken) our stuff, so we were somewhat ready with a plan. We scrambled and scrounged, called in some favors, and managed to get enough gear to make the show happen. Except for being exhausted and stinky, it was a perfect day for baseball. This was good since we played after a Gateway Grizzlies game. I wore my PF Flyers for the occasion...Anyone remember The Sandlot? “Shoes guaranteed to make a kid run faster and jump higher...P.F. Flyers." Matt in the plaid, watching the game It was a sad day for the Grizzlies, they lost 11-3. Pete and I were still winners because we got to try "Baseball's Best Burger" which is going to be featured on the Travel Channel's Man Versus Food (click here). I'll admit we're suckers for crazy food and if it's featured on a tv show we have to try it, but this has to be among the unhealthiest of sandwiches I've ever eaten. It's inspiration must've been a heart attack. If you care at all for your health, don't go near it. It has bacon and cheddar on a 1/4 lb patty, which is bad, but here's the kicker...the bun is a fried Krispy Kreme Donut. So like two intelligent, health-conscious adults would obviously do, Pete and I split one. Was it worth it? I'll leave that to the professionals of Man Vs. Food to decide, but it'll probably be awhile before I want to see another hamburger or donut. After the game, we had another over-night trip. This one was in a rental car, driving back to Toledo. After not sleeping in a bed or having a shower for two days, we finally made it home at about 8:30 am. If it wasn't for the good parts of the weekend and the fact that we really enjoy getting to do this for a living, I'd almost say I'm getting too old for this kind of stuff. Still though, I'm going to sleep and I'm not waking up until Thursday. Goodnight...see you next week in New Hampshire dan |
