"Just "Call It" Stirring! Folk-Pop Quintet SATIN NICKEL Have a Lovely New Single and Video"

New York’s five-piece Folk-pop/Americana group, Satin Nickel have today unveiled a new single and accompanying music video called “Call It.” The music is accompanied by the big news that the band’s debut full-length, titled Shadow of Doubt, will drop on April 10th. Tour dates will be shared soon but, until then, fans in the area can check out a show on February 17th at NYC’s Bowery Electric.

Satin Nickel includes Samantha Aneson (vocals, guitar, banjo), Morgan Hollingsworth (vocals, guitar, mandolin), Nikola Balac (drums), Ariana Karp (cello), Andrew Shewaga (bass). Speaking of the new track, Aneson commented, “A few years ago, I was in a toxic relationship with someone I was pretty addicted to. We had a lot of arguments, weeks we’d go without speaking, and not a lot of respect. I remember him, in the middle of arguments, saying that we ‘should just call it now before it gets worse.’ That saying really stuck with me. ‘Call it’ is a phrase I’d hear in reference to going home at the end of the night - something much less final. It was almost insulting, how easy that phrase made breaking up sound. When I was healing from the relationship, I went back over that phrase and ended up writing a hook based around it.” - Pure Grain Audio

"Song of the Day: Satin Nickel "Call It""

Happy Valentine’s Day, beloved readers. The 2020 return of our Song of the Day features the gorgeous indie-folk of Satin Nickel’s “Call It.” Buttressed by confident vocals, luxuriant strings and a sweetly affecting chorus, it is easily one of our favorite songs we’ve heard this year.

Accompanied by an exquisitely shot video, “Call It” is the lead single off the band’s upcoming full-length Shadow of Doubt, due out April 10. A bit more nuanced and finely tuned than last summer’s “Just Keep Running,” this latest single proves that Satin Nickel is a quintet fully coming into their own and on the precipice of a major breakthrough.

Truth be told, we’ve never heard of Satin Nickel until today, but more songs like this and we’ll be riding their coattails all the way to the Americana Music Festival this October. - Greg Robson

"Satin Nickel - Just Keep Running: Electrifyingly Experimental Americana Folk"

“Just Keep Running” is the latest track from the New York-based experimental Americana Folk fourpiece Satin Nickel which any self-respecting audiophile won’t want to miss out on.

With Just Keep Running, the up and coming artist did plenty more than wistfully assimilate former soundscapes, instead, they orchestrated a hit which resonates with electrifying distinction, intensity, and artful ingenuity.

Right from the first verse, you can start to appreciate their polished progressively momentous approach to Americana Folk, yet, the twisted cello solo which draws the track to a close brings an explosively chaotic element to the track which you’ll never anticipate coming. Although maybe now you will because I’ve just pre-warned you. Yet, the visceral fiery contemporary concordance is something that you’re going to have to hear for yourselves to understand.

Bio

Satin Nickel began as a collaboration between Morgan Hollingsworth and Samantha Aneson—two songwriters who met while studying theater at the University of California, Irvine.  They began writing together after relocating to NYC and found a musical spark, writing a collection of songs ranging in styles from Folk to Blues to Indie.  Combining Morgan’s aggressive approach to the Americana narrative with Samantha’s sentimental and introspective approach to folk music, they found their contrasting styles complemented each other, forming a powerful dichotomy.  Smooth as satin, hard as nickel.  Folk and rock.  Aggressive and sensitive.  Progressive and reflective.

In the winter of 2018, they met fellow theater artists Nikola Balac (Drums) and Ariana Karp (Cello), and after a few months of rehearsing, they recorded their debut self-titled EP and began playing venues all around Brooklyn and NYC.  Adding bassist Andrew Shewaga to the group, Satin Nickel became a full-bodied quintet and recorded their first full length album, Shadow of Doubt, which will be released in April of 2020.  Their sound has been described as “Dreamy Americana” and "folk with an edge."  Their first single “Just Keep Running” was considered “a polished, progressively momentous approach to Americana Folk” with their fusion of folk and blues with ambient effects and textures.  Being mostly comprised of theater artists, Satin Nickel gives the essence of a traveling troupe of storytellers and balladeers, imbuing the listener with the emotional imagery of an unplanned, but ultimately fulfilling road trip through America.
