Seemway

Seemway has been a band for roughly six years (two of those years under a different name and shrunken lineup). Our songs are composed through drums, samplers, guitars, bass, keys, vocals, and sound effects, played by the four of us interchangeably. We are Dawson Timpany, Phil Di Leo, Oscar Panting, and Ryan Knapp (Garrett Peters also performs on the LP). When allotted the wiggle room our live sets incorporate various visual aids: live painting, projections, performance art. 

Seemway is only incidentally shaped by genre. Highly specific musical and non-musical moments are the double-helix and bars to our DNA. Musical moments like hearing a stick rattle against a fence, the distant and not at all distant wail of BART. Non-musical moments like the hard-rocking stench of the seafood warehouse neighboring our second practice space and Brian Eno’s abstractly encouraging Oblique Strategies Cards. 

In a clear-as-possible description, Seemway tends toward texturally and energetically dynamic pop songs. These are songs not not indebted to the lineages of psychedelia, electronic, and krautrock, but songs mostly in service to the initial and oftentimes accidental improvisations which birthed them. Every song has evolved through dozens of iterations, iterations we’ve played and unplayed across practice spaces, houses and venues. We could release an LP for each song and it’s different faces over time.
