SEMORE BUCKZ - 'SUCCESS FIRST LOVE LATER VOL. III'

I first got put onto Semore Buckz from my homegirl Dove, and I usually trust her taste so I gave this one a spin. You should too, because Buckz got Barz. Part III of his Success First Love Later is packed with energy and an impressively smooth delivery. My favorites, though, are his freestyle over Raekwon's "Ice Cream" and the "Oochie Wally" freestyle. What can I say? I'm a sucker for classic beats. And seeing more buckz. - Mass Appeal

"Semore Buckz releases ‘Koo-It’ music video"

When historians think of Cambridge, MD, they see enslaved Africans being traded; but Cambridge later became an essential stop on the Underground Railroad that provided safe houses for southern slaves escaping north.

Fast forward to today, and Cambridge’s racially/diversified makeup is roughly 48 percent African-Americans and 46 percent Whites; and one of its promising representatives—Semore Buckz, has emerged to the forefront with a music video for ‘Koo-It’, a song off of his soon-to-be released mixtape, “Success First... Love Later (Vol 3).”

AXS caught up with Semore Buckz, and this is what he had to say.

AXS: What was life like growing up in Cambridge, MD?

Semore Buckz: Challenging but cool. It’s a small town so the opportunities are limited, but I found ways of making the best out of it.

AXS: Who are some of your musical influences?

SB: Jay-Z, Biggie, Cam’ron, The Lox, and Clipse.

AXS: When did you realize that you wanted to become an emcee?

SB: I would say around the age of 10. I’ve always been into music, but once I found out that I had a gift at freestyling, I became completely in love with it.

AXS: How would you describe your sound?

SB: Country but city. I would say I’ma lyrical rapper, but I can do it on a trap beat or classic boom bap sound. I’m bridging the gap, and bringing a whole new flavor to the game.

AXS: What can we expect to hear on your soon to be released mixtape, 'Success First… Love Later (Vol 3)'?

SB: Classic/lyrical Hip-Hop with substance, and a message. Something you can listen to—all the way through, and it has dope production to set the mood.

AXS: Which artist would you like to work with in the near future and why?

SB: Pusha T. I grew up listening to Clipse, so I’ma fan first; but I actually think we can cook up some dope records.

AXS: What’s the greatest obstacle you had to overcome in the music industry, and how did you overcome it?

SB: About a year or two ago, I woke up one morning, and all of my YouTube videos had been deleted. I was a new artist, so that was a major loss—losing all of my footage at the time. I was in my feelings for about an hour, but once I realized being mad wouldn’t fix anything, I chalked it up as a loss and started over.

AXS: What’s the best advice anyone has ever given you?

SB: Never give up on your dreams. No matter what roadblocks you might encounter, find a way to reach your destination.

AXS: What would you say is your greatest accomplishment?

SB: Honestly, just building a loyal fan base, and being able to brand myself in other states.

AXS: What would you say is your most-memorable Hip-Hop moment?

SB: Once upon a time, I participated in a rap battle in the neighborhood projects, and I battled 7 emcees from Delaware—all at one time. It was a classic, and I hope the footage surfaces one day.

AXS: Which celebrity do people say you look like the most?

SB: ASAP Rocky, but to be honest, I don’t think we look anything alike; maybe it’s the braids?

AXS: What advice would you give to an aspiring emcee?

SB: Never give up just because the support isn’t there at first. Never get too comfortable, and always try to out-do your last.

AXS: Decades from now, when people say Semore Buckz—what will they say?

SB: There will be barbershop arguments and debates about me being in somebody’s Top 5—most lyrical emcees of all time.

AXS: What are three things on your bucket list?

SB: Continue to build my brand, land on the cover of next year’s XXL Freshman list, and get my mother a new crib.

AXS: What’s your favorite word and why?

SB: My favorite word is koo-it. It originated in my neighborhood, and I’ve been saying it for at least 20 years now.

AXS: Name your top five emcees of all time?

SB: Jay-Z, Biggie, Nas, Big L, and Big Pun.

AXS: How can people get in contact with you and where can they go to hear your music?

SB: They can check me on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook @GrizzyDaGrinder, or they can just Google Semore Buckz, and my information will pop up.

AXS: Thanks for a great interview, and as an honored guest, is there anything else you would like to say?

SB: I just wanna thank y’all for reaching out to me for this interview, and shoutout to my crew. Much love. - AXS

Bio

Hailing from Cambridge MD, a small town arguably known for everything besides music, Semore Buckz aims to break

the mold and stand out above all other MC’s, and be the next iconic figure for the new generation. With the support of

his hometown for both his lyrical ability & street credibility, Buckz feels it’s time to let his presence be known to the

rest of the world.

Semore Buckz was first introduced to hip-hop through his diverse collection of CD’s, mixtapes and cassette tapes he

owned as a kid, full of NYC’s hottest rappers at the time including The Notorious B.I.G., Big L, Jay-Z, AZ, DMX, The Lox and

many more. When Semore Buckz started middle school, he got his start in hip-hop by battling other emcees, under the

rap name “Gage Da Grinder.” By the time he graduated middle school, “Gage” had built himself quite a buzz as a respected

MC; battling and winning against artists twice his age. A few years later when He turned 16, BUckz got his first

break performing for the first time at Club Sonar in Baltimore, MD, introducing his sound to a town who had never

heard him before and seemed impressed. After receiving the newfound love and respect from people he had never met,

Buckz decided it was time to pursue his dreams of becoming a top MC.

Biography

As a 17-year old junior in high school, Buckz did what he could to keep his presence buzzing in the streets. Between

dropping freestyles for local DJ’s, battling MC’s in the streets or just rapping for his peers for fun, Semore Buckz

was dedicated to perfecting his craft full-time, driving his hometown insane with his unique personality and

undeniable wordplay. It wasn’t long before Semore Buckz realized that although the hometown love was fulfilling,

it would take way more than freestyles on local radio and street battles to make himself a household name. Upon

coming to this realization, Buckz developed his own, defiant sound and turned it into an original style. With a fresh,

new flavor for the game, he began building a bigger fan base by performing more at clubs and promoting his music on

social media.

In May of 2012, Buckz released his debut mixtape, “Success First…Love Later - Volume I” to great regional success, in which

he wasallowed to start creating a reputable name for himself. “Volume II” was released on January 2014, and received

great internet buzz. “It felt great to see how slowly but surely I started gaining fans in all parts of the world”, says

Buckz. Now, as a young, aspiring artist with well-designed plans to launch his career on a global scale, Buckz remains

hungry as ever, always looking for the next big move to help his career. With the upcoming Spring 2015 release of “Success

First… Love Later – Volume III”, his unique sound and his “now or never” attitude, Buckz has taken matters into his own

hands and is taking control of his destiny to become an unforgettable voice in the world of hip-hop.
