Interview: We’re here with LRT Music Group artist, Seven. First off, how did you get the name Seven? Where did you take that from?

Seven: That’s a name that has stuck with me since back in the days, back when I was in school and in the streets, the “get high” days. I stuck with it and I brought it up when I started rapping and DJ’ing. It’s been with me throughout the years and it’s always been my lucky number. My favorite year and car is a ’57 Chevy so I always just adapted to that number [Seven].

Interview: No doubt. How did you hook up with LRT Music Group? Tell us how that relationship came about.

Seven: I hooked up with LRT at a dub car show in Los Angeles through some people, another group; one of the artists that I deal with named Redwood, some of his people hooked us up with Lisa from LRT. We connected and we were vibing together. I went up there, we had a meeting and I shot them some demo CD’s and I ended up building a good relationship with Lisa who is the CEO/President of LRT. It actually started off with her managing me, after we inked an artist deal through her and a label distribution deal for my indie label Hellafyde Records. That’s how the relationship began. I’ve been with LRT for about two years now and the relationship with her is going really good.

We’re pushing the single “Life Ain’t Easy” right now off my mixtape/street album “Public Enemy” and getting ready to drop my first release through LRT/InGrooves/Universal which will be the “Smooth Criminal” album, dropping hopefully by the end of the summer.

Interview: Ok the album is titled “Smooth Criminal.”

Seven: That’s the actual album, “Smooth Criminal.” That will be my commercial release coming out through LRT/InGrooves/Universal.

Interview: Ok. Is there a date in place for the record?

Seven: Not at mind, not yet. We’ve been trying to actually wrap up a couple more songs so we don’t have an actual release date as of now.

Interview: Ok. “Smooth Criminal” is the title of the album – any influence from Michael Jackson there?

Seven: I’ve always been a fan of Michael Jackson since I was a kid. Everybody loves at least one Michael song, or from the Jackson 5. He had a couple songs I would love to cruise to, in the classic cars, I do the Lowrider thing out here in Los Angeles, and music has always been a big part of the Lowrider culture. My image has always been that of a real hard thug, street image. On the “Smooth Criminal” album, I’m doing more of a mixture of hip hop and R&B. it’s a mix of smooth rap and R&B so I decided that the “Smooth Criminal” title fits the music well. It works with the image. We’re doing more of a suit type, grown up, upscale image for it and push the whole “Smooth Criminal”, with a James Bond 007type of theme.

Interview: That’s cool. I know you said you’re promoting the single right now. What’s the title and where can the fans go to hear it?

Seven: Right now we’re releasing a mixtape called “Public Enemy” and the single off that mixtape is “Life Ain’t Easy” produced by C-Major. They can catch that on ITunes, www.myspace.com/siete. They can also find it on www.dubcnn.com and www.rhapsody.com. It’s up and out there for download.

We’re gonna’ be dropping the first single off “Smooth Criminal” next month. It’s gonna’ be called “I Can’t Deny.”

Interview: So let’s make sure everything is clear for the readers. The “Life Ain’t Easy” single is off the “Public Enemy” mixtape.

Seven: Yeah, that one is out on the mixtape right now.

Interview: And the “I Can’t Deny” single is dropping in a month off the “Smooth Criminal” album.

Seven: In about a month on ITunes and what not, correct.

Interview: And with the “Public Enemy” mixtape, what’s the date looking like for that as I’m sure it’s coming before the album.

Seven: The date for “Public Enemy” is gonna’ be up along with th - www.losangeleshiphop.net

"Seven"

They say Seven is a lucky number. However, growing up on the east side of Torrance, California, life seems to falls more under the category of inauspicious; the streets ring with an unpromising fate. But, I guess when you’ve escaped death a few times -- once after having your car shot up and catching two bullets yourself -- you can consider yourself a pretty lucky man. And to dub yourself “Seven” would seem like an appropriate thing to do.

The west coast rapper, Seven, has peeled himself away from the wreckage of ill-fated fortune and flooded the streets with a resounding buzz from his mixtapes and promo single “The End Of Summer”, featuring G-Unit’s Spider Loc and L.V. (yes, from Gangster’s Paradise).

Dubcnn catches up with Seven for this exclusive interview, in which he talks about his past, present and the future of his upcoming release, F.A.M.E (Hellafyde/Fontana/Universal Music).

Bio

This multi talented artist, producer, and C.E.O known as Seven, got his foot in the game originally as a freelance producer working for independent and major labels such as, Sony Music, Ruthless Records and eventually the infamous Death Row Records. Seven began his passion for music growing up on the sunny streets of southern California bumping legendary sounds of the originators of West Coast Rap, N.W.A, ATL, Dr. Dre, Dj Quik, and of course the ever so present sound of 60s and 70s oldies and old school funk. Highly influenced by the combination of the music and the street lifestyle, it lead to the creativity expressed in his tracks, that bring back that rhythmatical flow of real life. Having the opportunity to work with many major and independent artists along the road due to his success, he soon began to develop his own rap style which he combined with a little singing. Now after perfecting his talents, he has evolved into one of today s hottest artists in the independent game. Having been a member of Delegation car club (10 years active ) Seven expressed his point of view on todays West Coast Lowriding Hip Hop lifestyle. In his melodic old school funk sound with a twist of that gangster pimp conversation, he represents his lifestyle and culture. Through out his career as a producer he has produced, co written, and engineered over 16 albums from start to finish, and has produced tracks and featured in over 30 albums worldwide. As an artist he has commercially released 2 full length albums written and produced by him, "7 Million Ways" 2001, and "F.A.M.E" 2009, and 2 mixtapes "Family Business" 2006, and "Public Enemy" 2010. In 2004 he toured along with fellow rapper CAZ as an opening act for Bone Thugz n Harmony, and in 2007 headlined his own tour in Japan along with fellow rapper Mr. Shadow. Seven has also been featured, and interviewed by many media outlets and magazines such as, Music Connection, Latin Rap Magazine, Wheels Magazine, Custom Lowriding Japan, Rolling Stone Japan, Dubcnn.com, Allhiphop.com, L.A.Times.com, and hiphopdx.com. Seven is currently wrapping up his 3rd solo album titled "Smooth Criminal" due to release Mid 2014 through LRT/Ingrooves. His last two singles "Get To Know U" and "Life Ain't Easy" got spins on several college and commercial radio stations across the U.S., as well as on line radio sites on the net.
