She Swings, She Sways is a Midwestern indie rock band whose range of influences is wide, combining rocking two-beat stomp, soulful lovelorn lyrics, and lilting pop melodies. The band -- Cory Canny, Jason Bolinger, and Troy Morgan -- currently occupies a house on North Green Street in Ottumwa, Iowa. Since getting together in 2005, the band has had many members – once as many as seven – but has recently settled on the efficient and magic number of three. Cory plays guitar. Troy plays upright bass, and Jason plays drums. They all write songs and sing them.
In the last five years, they have released three records: two EPs and a full length. In 2008, their first full length record, Wasted Love Songs, saw the band signed to Authentic Records, home to many of Iowa’s best and hardest working bands. They have put thousands of miles on many vans, playing in the Midwest, Upper South, and on the East coast. Their travels have resulted in many new friends and fans; a few broken hearts; and the rescue of Sassafras, a horse stuck in a frozen Kansas pond. And even though the road can be hard, they’re always able to find a girl’s bed to sleep in (though she may not be in it), and her mom usually makes them muffins in the morning.
In the summer of 2010, they plan to release a series of free EPs that will be released online. These will constitute the first outings for the new, leaner version of the band, with each member contributing songs to the project.
She Swings, She Sways is very proud of their Iowa roots. Still, they all hope to soon leave home for the long haul and take their music anywhere they can find a meal, a bed, and some open ears.
