"REVIEW: WHEN WE WERE BY SLEEPWAR"

When We Were by Sleepwar is truly a riveting musical journey that will soothe the mind upon listen and give something new to think about.

It’s a beautiful thing when music can motivate use to think or to be inspired to create ourselves. Much as writing is a continual skill process, it’s tough when the sources of inspiration seem dry at times. But much like this band and the members behind it, the journey is worth the grind. Well done Sleepwar. - Contrast Control

"Video Premiere: Sleepwar "Thousand Different Faces""

If you’re not familiar with Phoenix based Indie New Wave Rockers Sleepwar, may I make the introductions with this Paste Online premiere of their debut single, “Thousand Different Faces.” 'Writing good music' is their soul foundation and mantra, and so this track is quite simply straightforward empathic writing. From the titillating synth sounds playing masterfully against an indie dance beat, the relatable lyrics breathing familiarity within electronic pop measures, this first single off of their freshman EP When We Were is a masterpiece of an oft too often overlooked subgenre, but there aren’t really any fillers, either. And while the recent disparity and conflict seen between conventional rock and pop and electronic music seems to make these genres seem at odds, they’re ultimately inseparable.

Due out January 26th, each track of When We Were feels like a simultaneous divulgence and affirmation of one’s soul; no skeletons, no secrets, no shadows. Ultimately, that is what relateable song-writing should be all about: sounds and stories stirring the disparate emotions and thoughts, casting light across the dark, and clearing a refreshing, melodic path to coalesced self-discovery.

"SLPWR - Thousand Different Faces"

This is a solid work of facing ourselves, our demons and owning them set to a modern indie synth-wave. Sleepwar has managed to accomplish a great opening of who they are and the direction they are heading. Music is meant to be real- and Sleepwar has sweetly created a masterful work of art. - BANGS

"Sleepwar “Thousand Different Faces” Song Review When We Were"

Sleepwar has figured out the formula for mixing rock and electronic. First of all, this song has a great groove to it, and it never lets up. Everyone in the band is in on this groove, led by drummer Brendan McGuinness. It’s tight and I dug it very much. My favorite surprise on “Thousand Different Faces” is vocalist Roger Willis; this dude has some serious pipes. I loved it when he hit the higher register in his range, he can hold it so well and it adds a great dynamic to an already impressive song. The production was sleek and flawless, it meshed perfectly with the other instruments. - Boston Rock Radio

"SLEEPWAR – WANDERED & WASHED: RHYTHMICALLY PUNCHY SYNTH POP ROCK"

You’d be hard pressed to find a more ambiently styled Indie Rock Pop hit than SLEEPWAR’S latest track Wandered & Washed. It’s anthemic yet muffled sound has an ethereally uplifting edge and an all-round resounding cacophonic effect. With their latest release the powerhouse of talent SLEEPWAR created an instrumentally synergetic melody, with all the hookish breakdowns that you’d expect from any self-respecting Pop track. In short, Wandered & Washed is a tsunami of electronically charged aural alchemy. - A & R Factory

Bio

From the desert expanse of Phoenix, Arizona, indie rock band Sleepwar combines new wave and synth-pop influence with lyrics speaking to addiction, recovery, spiritual life and death and the struggles of life. Sleepwar is led by Roger Willis (vocals) with Tim Woodbridge (producer, keys), James Allen (bass), Mark Pfister (guitar), and Brendan McGuinness (drums).

Utilizing lush synthesizer soundscapes, Sleepwar produces a sound that is both familiar and unique. Fans of the five-piece rock outfit have likened their music to that of Tame Impala, the Killers, Coldplay, Imagine Dragons and Local Natives.

Sleepwar's initial EP, When We Were, released January 2018, was recorded, mixed, and produced by Cory Spotts (Job For A Cowboy, The Maine, Bless the Fall, Greeley Estates) at BLUElight Audio Media in Phoenix, AZ.
