"Slut Magic is the Ultimate Punk Rock Foreplay"

Do you believe in magic? Well, you will now.

Punk rock band, Slut Magic weaves an enchanting, heavy, and moody spell. Influenced by Aleister Crowley, lucid dreams, and Laruicci jewelry, the sound weaves together witchy vibes with desire, sass, and longing. With band members Emma Sky, Mike Bottomley (aka Hot Boyfriend), Sir Marc Hall, and other special guests, there’s sure to be more mayhem.

Tunes like “Megawatt,” are dreamy and feels a little reminiscent of Audrey’s Horne’s airy Agent Cooper crush (think vocals with Audrey’s syrupy “Agent Cooper loves coffee” coo.) Other songs like “No Loyalty” and “STFU” are pure brazen in-your-face-punk. Needless to say, it’s a rad riot and we’re here for it. If you need music of the occult-influenced nature while being able to stomp your heart out, this Brooklyn band is for you.

Oh, and did we mention Slut Magic has a free record release show at Wayward Social this Saturday 3/31? RSVP here. Hit up the event this weekend at and peep their Soundcloud below. - Brokelyn

"Slut Magic get down and dirty on No Loyalty"

Today, Punknews is pleased to debut the new track by Slut Magic.

"No Loyalty" is a grimy, lo-fi smasher that walks the line between 80s vintage hardcore and wild garage rock. This is dark and mean.

Speaking to Punknews about the track, vocalist Emma Sky said, "Slut Magic is really into living freely, fucking freely, and loving freely. So, we decided that you can’t be free and loyal at the same time. You can’t love and be loyal at the same time. If you're loyal, then your choice is already made. Even if you don't like that choice! Freedom and love require openness to being hurt. No conditions. So we just wrote a song about all these institutional transactions dressed up as love: fraternity, patriotism, monogamy, even some friendships—they’re all based on conditional giving and taking, or caring about something to the exclusion of another thing. That’s no way to live. Like, if you’re gonna come to our show because you feel obligated, just stay home. We only want enthusiasm."

Check out the new track below, right now. - Punknews

"Slut Magic releases In My Mouth"

Slut Magic makes punk rock for a modern era—it’s covered in branded fashion statements, intimate like social media, and eclectic in its influences. New single “Adult Situations” plays as an unabashedly modern confessional where singer/violinist Emma Sky seems to lament over a lover unresponsive to text invites to see Star Wars. There’s a hint of riot grrrl intensity, made clearer by the band name’s reclamation of “slut” and the collage-style artwork, but Slut Magic pulls just as much from a Liz Phair-style lyrical openness and leans musically adventurous with cavernous violin and rumbling, phasey guitars—the violin also takes time to wittily paraphrase the Star Wars theme. The band’s debut album, In My Mouth was released on March 30th. – Cameron Carr - The Deli Magazine

"Release Radar"

Your place for teen-angst and empowerment, this group of rockers is putting out an album in just over a week to soothe your sexual desires. Until then, lead singer Emma Sky and friends are sharing this bright and shiny single with us. If you're a garage rock fan with a craving for the sharp lyrics, this is your jam. - Popdust

"Slut Magic Play Planned Parenthood Benefit"

With a name like Slut Magic, from the get-go it’s obvious this quartet makes no bones about being straightforward and political. “Slut” is such a loaded word, but for band founders Lauren Ruicci and Emma Sky, it represents the assurance and indomitability that they want to reclaim through music. That music more than lives up to its aspirations; recalling the loud-soft-loud dynamics of grunge bands like Hole, Slut Magic knows how to balance every thrashing punk scream with moments of structural refinement (and vice versa). Slut Magic will play Trans-Pecos on Valentine’s Day, and will be donating all proceeds to Planned Parenthood—so if you’re looking to mosh for a cause this holiday, this might be the perfect opportunity. - The Deli NYC

"Video Premiere: Slut Magic – ‘Dark Purple’"

An angsty, sonic make-out session from the dirty heart of Brooklyn, New York, Slut Magic make punk rock for a modern era. Blending pointed barbs and heavy-handed opinions about fashion, social media, and contemporary intimacy, the band are an unabashed product of the modern age, cutting their way through the muck and the mire to make something new.

Crashing into existence with undeniable energy, they’re a band on the rise, reveling in rash experimentation and a rejection of the current norms. When their debut album, ‘In My Mouth’ was released back in April of 2019, Slut Magic found themselves in the middle of a riotous melee, surging into the public consciousness with an unapologetic snarl.

Throughout 2019, the four-piece of Emma Sky, Shannon Zakarison, Hot Boyfriend (aka Michael Bottomley), and Marc Hall have continued their punk-ish crusade through popular music with two dark, hip-hop singles, the landmark ‘Rainbow Eyes’, and the bristling, intimate sounds of ‘Dark Purple’. Two massive glimpses into the upcoming sophomore album, ‘Trauma Queen’, which is set to be released in 2020, the tracks have become hallmarks of the band’s sound.

A new premiere that we’re proud to be hosting, Slut Magic have now revealed the official music video for ‘Dark Purple’. Featuring shifting trip-hop beats and “F*ck being your lady” vibes, the video is a stylistic assault from the brilliant Manuall Focus. - Broken 8 Records

Bio

"All those pretty, bi-looking people back there must be the Slut Magic crew." -overheard at Slut Magic show.

Slut Magic is an angsty, sonic make-out session from Brooklyn, New York. Their "you-guys-this-shit-is-unhinged" take on Britney’s Toxic is here now following their sludgy, creepy, Valentine's Day 2021 cover of Spice Girls’ Say You'll Be There.
Early 2021 also saw the merch collab of the century with vaporwave clothing brand Palm Treat creating Slut Magic-inspired designs for the post-apocolyptic world.

Over the past three years, the band—composed of Emma Sky (vocals and violin), Hot Boyfriend (guitar), Shannon Zakarison (drums), and Marc Hall (bass)—has made dream-inspired indie punk and garage pop with Laruicci Records and Rock Hand Records. Slut Magic's 2020 album, Trauma Queen was unleashed on toxic-green vinyl via Rock Hand Records.

This summer they’ll give the people of Brooklyn what they've been missing, Slut Magic shows at Our Wicked Lady, The Nest, 18th Ward Brewing, and City Reliquary. Not only that but they'll jump into Leesta Vall’s studio for a direct-to-vinyl live session, giving them a reason to practice again after a year locked inside with their cats.
