About Solander

Malmoe alternative

Solander might be an unknown name for you, but in fact Solander has existed in various formations since 2005. Making music for the short movie En död kråka (A dead crow) in 2006, contributing music for the film Hata Göteborg (Hate Gothenburg) in 2007 and releasing three EP’s spread out during these years.

Solander is Fredrik Karlsson backed up by various people mostly from the Malmö underground scene. It might be a string quartet, it might be an indie rockband or sometimes only by a single cellist. All of this is mere different kind of angles of what Solander sounds like, you never know. But what we do know, is that Solander’s music is based on strong melodies and thoughtful lyrics, a widespread variation of instrumentation, and a hunger to explore new paths and different ways to perform the songs.

Starting out as an indie rockband in Gothenburg 2005 the shape of Solander soon changed into something completely different. Solander became a recording project of Fredrik Karlsson when he moved to Malmö in 2006. Since then he’s also been part of a lot of other bands and collaborations a.o. Fredrik (the band, not referring to Fredrik Karlsson confusingly enough), Vit Päls and Band In Box to mention a few. Each band exploring very different roads down the musical lane. Gathering impressions and trying out different ways to write songs, record them and to perform live during these years has made Solander growing into a very exciting act to follow!

Since we are pigeons, the debut album of Solander was released in G-A-S and Scandinavia on A Tenderversion Recording on October 16 2009. The album features members of the bands Fredrik, Vit Päls, Audrey, Scraps Of Tape and more.
