"This week’s Minnesota record releases"

The title of the debut full-length from #MPLS is a little ironic, given that the band is peppered with veterans of the local music scene—including Ashley Commodore (Sounds of Blackness), Bree Turner (Loyal), Jesse Larson (Next), David Glen (Hustle Rose), David Billingsley (Sounds of Blackness), Brandon Commodore (Mint Condition), Beeph, and Rob Coleman. HELLO features a vintage soul sound with splashes of hip-hop and rock; between the Purple Rain 30th anniversary and the release of the “new” Michael Jackson album, there’s never been a better time to spin a track like “Dance With Me” and party like it’s 1984. Hit up their release show Thursday at the Fine Line, and read about the Nordeast studio where HELLO was recorded—appropriately, it’s the studio that’s now home to Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis’s hitmaking console. - Jay Gabler

Bio

Delivering a sound that is all Minneapolis. #MPLS (M-P-L-S) is the progressive product of the Hip-Hop generation, showcasing eight independent voices while exhibiting an exceedingly bold Funk and Soul sound. They have just released their debut #MPLS combines the talents of Jesse Larson and David Glen (Hustle Rose) on guitars, Ashley Commodore and Bree Turner on Vocals, Rob Coleman on Synth Bass, David Billingsley on keys, MC Beeph Morgan and Brandon Commodore (Mint Condition) on drums.

Influenced by the legendary and world-renowned Minneapolis sound, #MPLS was graced with a prestigious house gig at Bunker’s Music Bar & Grill, a venue made famous by Prince and many of his current and former band mates. They have built a now 4-time sold out succession of Michael Jackson Tribute shows at The Cabooze Music Club in Minneapolis. In January of 2012 they opened for Mint Condition at the Fine Line Music CafĂŠ. 2013 has been dedicated to original work and the group is now preparing material for a mid 2014 release of their first studio album, Hello.

"#MPLS is by far the most entertaining band performing in the Twin Cities. I say this not as a promoter who has worked with them for more than three years, I say this not as a reporter and music critic -- I say this as a pure fan! #MPLS is a soul band, but at the same time, they're a funk group, a hip-hop group and a rock band rolled into one ... but the core of #MPLS is soul. Sure, the name of the group proudly represents the band's roots in the Minneapolis Sound, but trust me, #MPLS is taking that sound to a whole new level. I just happy to be able to say, "I knew them when ..." - Harry Colbert, reporter & editor for Insight News

"As connoisseur of music and owner of a music network, I've had the opportunity to experience and work with some of the best talent in the industry. I'm truly excited about the group #MPLS! The members are musicians who study the greats and are a model for the future in music. Consummate performers who exhibit talent, energy and creatively in their work. I highly recommend #MPLS and look forward to their continued success." - Pete Rhodes, founder/ceo of Black Music America Networks
