Steve Dennis, from Boston who has been inspired by Eric Clapton, John Mayer, and Jack Johnson. Most of his material is original, although he might throw in some covers. Dennis can be seen at the Middle East in Cambridge, and many Boston, Salem and the Northshore area venues.
Dennis started playing at the age of 16 and is currently working on a new album inspired by a road trip he had taken last year, from Nashville to Austin and then on to San Francisco. He has a plan and that is to eventually move to Austin, Texas where he wants to pursue a record deal. Currently, Dennis is in search of a trio group to fully grasp the sound that he is trying to achieve.
" The trip to Nashville, was jaw dropping," said Dennis. "There was live music around every corner and girls selling cowboy boots on the street. The view from the top of Tootsie's Bar allowed you to see all the bars along Broadway.
From Nashville, I drove to Austin, Texas. Austin is the place to be for blues musicians. From Stevie Ray Vaughan to Gary Clark JR, blues lives in Austin. Along with the music, the food was like nothing I have ever experienced. I waited outside of Franklin BBQ at 7am just to taste their famous brisket and ribs. The line wrapped around the corner with people chatting about their night at Austin City Limits and conversation about the legendary Stevie Ray Vaughan.
After Austin, I drove to San Francisco and the sights were beautiful. The Goldengate Bridge, Alcatraz Island, and AT&T Park were some of my favorite visits. You hear about these places and see pictures, but seeing and experiencing them in person gives you an exhilarating feeling. I stayed at a hotel on Fisherman's Wharf and while I was having an incredible time, I did experience some difficulties as well. On the last night of the trip, while I was sleeping, my car got broken into and all the gifts and a few personal items were stolen. That moment inspired me to write a song called "The Road" which will be on my demo coming this spring. All in all, the best musical experience of my life."

"The Joe Vig Top 40"

"Reboot" is a heartfelt, appealing two minute and thirty-six minute track wondering "do you ever think of cutting yourself loose?" With a guitar strum somewhat like Norma Tanega's "Walking my Cat named Dog" as well as telling the same kind of "happy sad" melancholy story. If Dr. Strange (in the film derived from the comic book) was taught that mystical spells are like computer programs, Steve Dennis unplugs from the day like a computer taking a very deep breath. "The King" has a more extended Neil Young acoustic strum with Steve's unique and alluring vocal style. "To take a side's one thing, to realize is the king of 'em all" he states over a slow-paced and Cajun-flavored mix. "Any Time Now" has a happy-go-lucky feel over its two and a half minute reticence and feeling out of place. All three songs combine to give some insight into this subtly powerful writer/singer. - Joe Viglione
