"Disco and glam inspire local electro-rock band’s new album"

ince their 2014 formation, Savannah dance-rock band Street Clothes has endured lineup changes, breakups, and births to craft dance-pop for the vintage-loving, glam-pop masses.

Adding longtime producer Peter Mavrogeorgis on bass and John Xarras on guitar, the band has elevated their captivating live show and is ready to throw down at this weekend in celebration of a new album.

Superautomatica hits the internet this week, and the band plans to release vinyl in the near future. We talked to vocalist Andrew Sutphen about arpeggiator magic, girls in cults, and the band’s big plans. - Connect Savannah

"More musical diversity than hand me downs"

Street Clothes’ uniqueness is conveyed perfectly in their music video for “Smells like sex (and everything is wrong).” A Kings of Leon/“Sex on Fire” feel, laced with intermittent keyboard and guitar combined with Sutphen’s higher-pitched tones and Grey’s backup vocals, truly gives Street Clothes an “eclectic” aura. - Do Savannah

"Fresh tunes from the savannah scene"

Over the last year or so, this band has gone through some major transitions in both personnel and sound. While local rock star producer Peter Mavrogeorgis was working on their album, he ended up joining the band permanently on bass. Which, perhaps, was the best thing that could have happened to this band.

Drummer David Murray and Mavrogeorgis lay down a solid rhythmic bedrock. New guitarist John Xarras, frontman Andy Sutphen and synth queen and vocalist Veronica Garcia all top their groove with a solid rock/pop tone, exporting as a fun and danceable glam rock. - Do Savannah

"9 bands you have to see in 2021"

Over the years, the notorious band Street Clothes has taken on a variety of new members, switching when the moment feels right. While the member count and content changes often, one quality that stays consistent with this group, despite the members moving in and out, is a solid sound made for those who want to stand up and dance. Started up by Andy Sutphen back in 2015, this group has been one that impresses locals and tourists alike no matter who is involved within the lineup. Find them at local haunts like El Rocko’s lounge and look forward to a new record that is in the works to be released soon. When you think about it, there’s no reason not to check out Street Clothes, you don’t even have to get dressed up for it. - cyclesavannah

"Street Clothes returns"

Street Clothes returns to the local music scene with its third EP release titled, "Decadence and Decay."

The album, which is filled with soundtrack quality tracks, is a mixture of dance rock, new wave and electronica which was created during the COVID lockdown and inspired by the city of Savannah.

“The lockdown helped me so much and provided a focus that was needed to finish this project," Andy Sutphen said.

"I am a writer of lyrics – all I do is write songs. I write the music and lyrics and that is my job. I, specifically, write albums and then I have great musicians around me who help me flush those songs out."

The album is a compilation of nine songs with the final song as a reprise to the first track of the album. Completely recorded at home, Sutphen is proud of what he was able to achieve with a scarcity of resources and the usual collaborations.

“Not being able to play live shows affected the way I write and make an album. I wrote the album without a band essentially. I wrote it with John Xarras in mind since I knew he would produce it and he was ready to take on the job of producer," he said. - Savannah Morning news

Bio

Street Clothes' super catchy, melodic dance rock spans all eight tracks of Superautomatica. Influenced by disco, new wave, and vintage glam, the band deftly captured their live experience in the Dollhouse Productions studio. The album reunited the band, which was broken up at the time, resulting in a string of unforgettable shows and earning them new fans throughout the region.
