""5 Rad New Singles""

The mellow, instrumental surf sound of the appropriately-named act Surf, offers dynamic musicianship in place of lyrics in their first single “Tacos” from the Something in Between EP. Don’t enter into Surf expecting some sort of Dick Dale impression. These kids grunge up their sound, creating something that lies closer to proggy indie rock than the instrumental surf music of Dale or Man Or Astroman? for everyone that’s already drawn those associations in their minds. The EP is set for release on October 17th at Tempe Tavern so mark your calendars! Until then, you can enjoy “Tacos” from the forthcoming Something in Between - Yab Yum West

Bio

It all started in 2011 when our lead singer, Aaron Tijerina, was working on a solo project. Working with various musicians around the Phoenix area, he tried to get a band going, but none were sticking as far as he could see. It wasn't until early 2012, things with the project changed‌ Aaron walked into his local coffee shop, Solo CafĂŠ, to meet a friend for the afternoon. On his visit, he met the barista Kyle Rogers (Lead Guitar) who expressed an interest in working with Aaron on some music. The two hit it off as friends as well as in the studio. Cut and Dry, their first collection of songs were a mix of folk and beach acoustic songs that Aaron had structured in the summer prior to their meeting. On their second EP, Love Me!, the duo went after a more artistic approach, creating a collection of instrumental and poetry driven ballads, derived from a book with the same name that Aaron finished in the summer of 2013. Soon after the second EP, while having drinks at a local bar, Aaron was introduced to Tyler Johnston (Drums) through a mutual friend. Aaron expressed a need for a drummer to Tyler, and after just one practice, the trio hit it off. Months went by working on new material to etch out what would later be SURF. Further on down the road, Mark Poteet (bass) and Richard Mears (keyboards), who are long time friends of Kyle, joined the band, creating a background melody and adding fullness to the sound that makes SURF what it is today.
