Bio

Survival Guide is an artistic endeavor featuring vocalist and keyboardist Emily Whitehurst. The music falls somewhere between indie rock and electronic, always with strong vocals and a sprinkle of pop.

Originally formed as a duo, Survival Guide started in northern California. The band released two 7” vinyl records on Side With Us Records: “Hot Lather Machine” and “Wildcat”. The music video for “Prohibition: Pts 1 & 2” was featured online with Filter, Nylon, and AP Magazines. Jaycen McKissick became an inactive member in early 2014, although he and Emily have written their upcoming full-length album together and plan on writing more Survival Guide songs as a team.

Emily is now surviving musically on her own, playing shows primarily in the Sacramento, San Francisco and North Bay areas of California (with intent to play everywhere). She is no stranger to the road, having fronted the national touring act The Action Design as well as international touring act Tsunami Bomb. Survival Guide has shared the stage with Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Penguin Prison, Mansions and more. 2014 will be eventful as well, with the first album on the way and more shows on the calendar, including Warped Tour dates and First City Festival. Stay tuned to see where the journey takes this one-woman show!
