Rap and ancient Latin are the most common connections. But then nothing is common about 23 year old SoCal rapper Tempo.
"Sic Parvis Magna is ancient Latin for ‘great things from small beginnings'," explains Tempo of the title of his brand new mixtape title. "I come from a small town, I consider myself as a diamond in the rough. Not a lot of people are into hip hop where I'm from."
Tempo is from Yucca Valley. 30mins from Palm Springs but a million miles in terms of rap culture, Tempo's journey into rap came through his town's most popular soundtrack: rock music.
"Yeah I've been known to write a few rock lyrics," laughs Tempo who's just as skilled in the studio as a producer as he is a rapper. "Rock is the most predominant music I hear. I recorded my first rock song when I was 13 - that's when I knew I wanted to be in music forever. Music engulfs me. I engulf music."
Inspired and motivated by his godbrother Young Herc, as an artist who can make beats and rap over them, Tempo has got serious edge in the game. For Tempo - real named Wendell - he's shocked more rappers don't do the same...
"You got to know all aspects of hip hop to be a great artist, right?" he laughs. "That's how I do it anyway."

At the young age of 3 he was performing in plays and talent shows, with a likeable attitude towards everything he attempts TempO shows promise in the industry. Fast forward 20 years later and he is an amazing artist that continues to show and prove with every opportunity that's placed in his way. From opening up for artist like Mann, Mike Jones, Bubba Sparxx, Bizzy Bone,Hed PE, and Afroman to headlining shows in his hometown Yucca Valley, it's apparent that TempO has only one goal in mind to make great music and give it to the world.
