About The Charming Youngsters

Greenville, NC Indie

"The Charming Youngsters apply jangle and swing to radio-ready rock, as if Alex Chilton replaced Dave Grohl at the front of Foo Fighters. The band formed in the same gritty house-show scene that spawned Lonnie Walker, The Love Language, Valient Thorr and Future Islands." - Corbie Hill, Independent Weekly

The Charming Youngsters have evolved from quirky folk duo into a janglerock powerhouse and are finally beginning to emerge from the dark corners of Greenville, NC with the release of their latest collection of songs, Fortescue.

The EP, recorded over a snowed-in weekend in Asheville, NC, represents a year of fine-tuning. After two records of bedroom pop recorded and performed by songwriter Nolan Smock, the new record marks the debut of a fully-formed band; over the last year the band embarked on self-booked tours and have played with several notable bands, including The Love Language, Elf Power, Casiotone For the Painfully Alone, Royal Bangs, and Howlies.

Live, the band plays as if the earth were ending around them, singing barn-burning songs about paranoia, death, love, and monsters, recalling the nervousness of They Might Be Giants, the sarcasm of Pavement, the pop smarts of Weezer, and the drama of The Flaming Lips.
