"“Can’t Stop” makes iTunes Hot Tracks charts - retweeted by iTunes/Tunecore to over 8.2 mm - Featured in DiGiorno Super Bowl Ad starring Terry Bradshaw"

As the country prepped for Super Bowl Sunday, DiGiorno Pizza coached consumers on how to properly pre-game before the Big Game in its campaign, “PreGiorno.” Consisting of several videos and a social media push, the campaign aims to “remind [party planners] of the crucial role that pizza plays on game day,” according to a DiGiorno Pizza press release. Chicago-based Alternative/Dance band, The Ivorys, keeps the party vibes of the spots high with the song, “Can’t Stop.”

"Working with Jessie at Music Dealers and DiGiorno on this campaign was a tremendous opportunity, and 'Can't Stop' making the iTunes Hot Tracks charts alongside Mark Ronson's "Uptown Funk" was huge for us. Not to mention, the social media buzz got us even more exposure and opportunities. Can't thank Music Dealers enough! "

-Brendan Peleo-Lazar

The Challenge
High Energy Sync

According to a study by DiGiorno, 93% of nearly 40,000 pizza-related tweets during Super Bowl ’14 focused on excessive delivery wait times, leading the brand to its “PreGiorno” campaign. Developed by marketing agency FCB Chicago, the videos showcase the importance of proper pizza planning before the kickoff. The client needed a song that could match the high energy of the portrayed Super Bowl party.

The Solution
Music Supervision

The client submitted its brief for the “PreGiorno” spots, including “Outtakes.” Music Dealers Creative Director Jessie LaBelle curated a playlist of songs from the MD catalog, which included “Can’t Stop” by The Ivorys. The song perfectly fit the DiGiorno brand and the Super Bowl spot.

The Result
iTunes Hot Tracks

The “PreGiorno” campaign ran for several weeks leading up to and following the Super Bowl, garnering huge interaction on Twitter and thousands of views on YouTube. After the sync, “Can’t Stop” jumped to the iTunes Hot Tracks chart beside Mark Ronson's “Uptown Funk” featuring Bruno Mars.

"15 CHICAGO BANDS YOU NEED TO LISTEN TO NOW"

Seems like Indie bands are a dime a dozen these days, but The Ivorys have a little something extra that seems to be catching a lot of people's attention these days. Maybe it's the catchy guitar riffs, maybe it's just the fact that they have chill grooves that everyone can jam to, but it's hard not to enjoy them, especially live.
They've played everywhere from SXSW to plenty of local shows, and now they're going on tour all around the country. So, unfortunately, you won't be able to catch them live any time in the foreseeable future unless you want to travel to L.A. or NYC, but, hey, we know they'd love the support. - Impulcity

"The Ivorys – Winner of CEA’s Best Fest Band!"

We are excited to welcome The Ivorys to Retro on Roscoe August 7-9 in Roscoe Village. The Ivorys are the winners of Chicago Entertainment Agency’s “Fans Choice Best Fest Band!” This contest, allowed fans to choose who they would like to see play at Retro on Roscoe. The most votes won the gig and The Ivory’s were by far the ‘Fan Favorite’ with over five thousand votes.

While harnessing a love of gritty classic rock and dance, this sharp vocal ‘power trio’ consisting of Neil Candelora, Brendan Lazar, and Sam White deliver driving, catchy rock and roll at its purest. Through powerhouse home recordings this band produces an animated yet electrifying live show.

Kyle Hulvey from StarEvents team contacted band member Brendan Lazar to learn more about the band. “We are a returning band to Retro on Roscoe and are thrilled to be back this year,” Lazar said. “We love to play summer street festivals in Chicago every year. It’s not summertime in Chicago without them! We are always looking forward to the next live show opportunity in our hometown.”

When asked about their unique sound Lazar went on to say:

“If the music didn’t evolve then we would not be a cohesive group! With every single we develop, we make sure not to copy what we have done previously, or mysteriously repackage an old idea. In fact, we never really record using the same techniques twice and we do it all ourselves. A new idea is a new idea and we are always experimenting with new instruments and melodies.”

For performing live they keep it simple only using guitar, bass, drums, and some pianos as they have always done in the past. Keeping the simple staple instruments in a live performance creates the struggle in recreating their recorded tracks. That struggle creates a healthy challenge for any artist which in turn, evolves the bands sound into what we hear today.

The Ivorys play on the West Stage, Saturday, August 8 from 4 p.m.-5:30 p.m. We hope to see you all there!

THE IVORYS: Defying age to land gigs, respect

Published April 11 2011

The trio is made up of all 18-year-old high school seniors. Listen to "The Devil Knows Best" MP3 right here.
Getting booked in Chicago bars can be a struggle for local bands, especially if everyone in the group is underage.

"They'll ask us, 'Are you sure you're serious (about being in a band)?'," said Brendan Peleo-Lazar, drummer for The Ivorys.

Although the age factor has occasionally drawn skepticism from some talent bookers, Peleo-Lazar said, the local trio - all 18-year-old high-school seniors - has landed its fair share of stage time at the Empty Bottle, Subterranean and other bars.

"Once the venues hear a few of our songs, they realize we've put some time into our music," Peleo-Lazar said, speaking of his band mates Rob Thomas and Sam White.

A recent resurgence of talented young bands in the music industry also has helped the group. Peleo-Lazar credits bands such as the Arctic Monkeys, Panic! at the Disco, and Chicago's Fall Out Boy with causing record companies and concert promoters to pay closer attention to young acts.

"Media has changed in recent years," he said. "The focus has really shifted in our favor."

The Ivorys' have recorded a self-titled, six-song EP and are currently trying to nail down more Chicago gigs.

"Review of Can't Stop"

The Ivory's are a hot new band with a sound that definitely has it going on, and that isn't like to change soon. There is an aspect that is somewhat familiar but definitely fresh.

The overall tone and driving force of the track "Can't Stop" is punctuated by a memorable chorus and memorable guitar and bass riffs, not to mention the infectious vocals.

Keep On Rockin'
We're in a retro fram of mind -- and please, keep in mind retro really does now include anything older than 5 years at this point -- so we're also going to check out The Ivorys at Beat Kitchen tomorrow night. Hit up their MySpace page for a taste of their basic power trio tunes, but avoid the video they shot since it supports their weakest song. At their best they churn out playful blues based rock and/or roll, but things can slide a tad downhill when their singer attempts to emote. Keep is simple, folks.
