Bio

The New Tarot were born in the dust of the great explosion just like everything else. They like magick, and art and tea, and being sisters.

Life is weird, be strange, not a stranger.

The New Tarot is an indie alternative rock band that was born out of the heat of the great cosmic explosion, and seemed to form itself around the spooky and sweet Walker sisters, Monika (vocals/guitar) and Karen (vocals/keyboard), and their dreams to combine Machines, Magick and Music grew with them. Soon enough, they had convinced four amazing musicians to join their cause; Chas Langston (celebrated British drummer), Beth Callen (coolest-ever lead guitarist, who doubles as Slash in Guns n'Roses Cover band), Dave Kahn (bassist who fronts his own prog-rock instrumental band "Treespeaker"), and David Banker (Trombonist who holds several degrees in music and recently served as our human sacrificial offering). Together, the band creates and experiments with human and universal archetypes through their music. Their stories are filled with equal parts chaos and harmony, loss and love, satire and empathy.
The New Tarot puts the "occult" in "cult following." Their fans are encouraged to become familiar with the ever-growing mythos of the band, as those in the know will often have the opportunity to engage in bizarre rituals alongside TNT, such as collective meowing, praising the four cardinal saints of pop music, and other elaborate ceremonies. The group recently headlined Brooklyn’s Knitting Factory and have repeatedly brought the house down, headlining weekends at other major NYC venues, such as Mercury Lounge, The Bowery Electric, Rockwood Music Hall Stage 2, The Slipper Room, Le Poisson Rouge, Studio@Webster Hall, The legendary Bitter End... etc. The band's last EP reached number 5 nationally, on the FMQB alt rock chart ("submodern") on 11/25/15 just behind Grimes, El Vy and Bob Moses, and ahead of Churches and Neon Indian. New EP premiers August 12th, 2016 on Consequence of Sound. The New Tarot has had major take off in just over a year’s time. Their live performances, peculiar ceremony and undeniably catchy music has landed them on the front page of many high-profile music blogs, including NYLON music, Consequence of Sound and Indie Shuffle, as well as was the subject of a major feature on Psychology Today. Most recently, the British taste-maker "Songwriting Magazine" made the band blush, by writing: "...So many young bands sound like Band X, or Band Y, or Band X+Band Y. The New Tarot, on the other hand, sound like themselves. They’ll go far."
