Allen Michael Witcher, also known as eclectic and creative hip hop artist The Vinci, has no lack of inspiration when it comes to putting his beats and lyrics together. Described as a concoction featuring “Eminem metaphors with Kendrick flow over a J. Cole Beat”, The Vinci has been regularly defying the odds with his music, and his outlook. The Indianapolis, Indiana native didn’t have it easy growing up – his home often in shadow while utility bills went unpaid. An uneven path eventually led to run-ins with law enforcement, and ultimately, a three and a half year stint in prison.
We’re happy to report that things look a lot different now for The Vinci, using his experience as a motivator to create his debut EP, a very personal tale across a host of tracks, a collection titled Psychoanalysis. We asked Vinci to tell us more about the project – he said the process was “Very dark – depressing really. I’m so ready to be done with it because I’m not there anymore. I have to take myself back there emotionally and mentally every time I re-record a verse…the writing process for this was me in one of the hardest transitions of my life and trying to cope with that. So I would pick up my pen and vent instead of more extreme choices that could have been made.
