"The Wild Northern to Play at Dive Bar"

Boston band The Wild Northern (TWN) will take the stage at the Dive Bar in Oak Bluffs this Saturday, June 14 for their first ever show on the Vineyard.

Comprised of Roland Eckstein on vocals and guitar, electric guitarist Brian Gallagher, Andy Guerini on drums, Jim Abdon on bass, and guitarist Jim "Big Cat" Fitzgerald, TWN is an indie-rock quintet that has played such venues as Manhattan's Webster Hall and the Hard Rock Café in Boston. As their name suggests, the band's songs have a rustic feel. Their music will take audiences to New Jersey porches, meteor showers, and railroad tracks. Mr. Eckstein mixes Springsteen-esque lyrics about love and heartbreak with those about the natural world ("Come on, girl/With your sweet fluorescent swirl/Be the breeze that eases my world/Be the sea, toss and turn" - "By the Indigo".) ... - Naomi Pallas - Vineyard Review

"A Spectrum of Sound Warm's Up Boston's Winter Playlist"

"2. The Wild Northern ::The Whiskey Season:: Nearly 100 backers and $6000 raised via Kickstarter helped this Americana quartet continue Boston's continually rising rustic tide, but on tracks like "Send the Runner," the Wild Northern add more jolt than the usual string-and-a-jig cavalry. :: January 12 @ the Middle East :: mideastclub.com" - Michael Marotta, Boston Pheonix

"Album Review: "The Whiskey Season" by The Wild Northern"

The new year euphoria is now long gone now that February is around the corner, but when it comes to music, it is fresher than ever now that the first albums of the year are coming out. There are many bands that have announced albums on the horizon or who are expected to release albums at some point this year, and there are many bands who will surprise us down the road with something we didn't see coming. The Wild Northern is a textbook example of such a surprise. The Whiskey Season, the band's debut LP, is a dense combination of indie, rock, folk, and americana that is backed with excellent mixing, great musicianship, and an energy that will keep you warm in the harshest winter weather. Guitarists will be pleased with the rich tonality and vibrant expression that Brian Gallagher brings to the band with his bold and engaging lead lines (take special note in Elizabeth & the Heartstop Blues), while Roland Eckstein's classic rock tinged vocals only reinforce the indie rock image of the band. The band seems to enjoy shake ups midway during certain songs, as By The Indigo, Flood, and Shout Pioneers! all experience rhythm changes that will rally up future concertgoers. No two songs are alike; from the folky Modest Man of Mighty Deeds to the melodically lush ballads Ashes and Along The Wire, the band knows how to keep things unique and interesting between the rock 'n roll bookends of the album. There is little to find fault with on The Whiskey Season - this is the first big surprise of 2013, and this album has all the right things needed to become a huge success by the time 2013 comes to an end.

"The Wild Northernat Sullivan Hall"

Fans and friends took up all the spare elbow room at Sullivan Hall 20 minutes prior to The Wild Northern’s set last Friday. The set included licks from their first EP The Line of Demarcation as well as new tracks they’ve been working on. My only complaint is that the set wasn’t long enough!

Companion Pictures filmed the entire performance and selected tracks should be available for viewing pleasure in the near future. In the meantime, head over to The Wild Northern’s Facebook page to get your fix. - Dan Greer - dg. artistics

"The Wild Northern at National Underground"

The Wild Northern played their debut show last night at packed National Underground. Friends and strangers gathered to hear tracks off their new album The Line of Demarcation EP, as well as new works. Overall the blooming four-piece folk-rock band sounded more mature than their time together would suggest.

To hear selected tracks from their album head to their Facebook page and show some support for these dudes. Also, if you’re in the NYC area, they’ll be playing September 16th at Sullivan Hall. - dg. Artistics

Bio

The Wild Northern is an indie-rock quintet split between Boston, MA and New York City.

TWN is Roland Eckstein, Brian Gallagher, Andy Guerini, Jim Abdon, and Jim "Big Cat" Fitzgerald. The band finds inspiration in late night NYC dives, mythical American frontier animals, 12-year Highland Malts, and buffalo chicken pizzas, among other things.

After breaking ground on their discography with The Line of Demarcation EP in 2011, the band began building its fanbase in the Northeastern US with shows centering around Boston and New York City.

The following Summer, the guys set to work on their debut full length, The Whiskey Season, which they released January 5, 2013, backed by a strong kickstarter campaign and incredible support from family and friends. After releasing their EP, All These Ghosts in early 2014, the band set out for Nashville to work with Blackbird Studios on their next full length album, which is currently in progress.

Eckstein's writing echoes the ancient longing to make something worthwhile while we're here. Reticence be damned. Strongly influenced by his musical beginnings, rooted in Sea Bright and Asbury Park, NJ. A folk-heart, his lyrics tell of overindulgent city nights, Wes Anderson films, and necromantic love. And, of course, always make their way back to the sea.

The band's cure for their 9-5 hangover is getting out on stage and playing their hearts out to foot-stomping fans, friends, and family alike. Come out and get wild.
