"Pushermania talks to TowDown"

Pushermania Podcast Network

Towdown is back! After serving 5 years in prison for growing marijuana, Houston's own Towdown is going hard! Towdown is the ORIGINATOR of the Country Rap Tune, he was literally one of the first to fuse country music with rap and make it jammin. Now that shit is a whole genre, and artists, as shown in a recent episode of Noisey on Viceland, are making it grow and thrive. (And of course with all due respect to Pimp C who coined the term "Country Rap Tunes" we are talking about rap music actually meshed with country and western).

Towdown might have missed a bit by being away for five years, but musically he hasn't skipped a beat. On this podcast you will hear a lot of real talk from a true H-TOWN legend, and some brand new music that just might take him further than he has ever gone.

Welcome back Towdown!

"Houston Veteran, Towdown Talks Prison Sentence, Credits Screw and H.A.W.K"

Houston Veteran, Towdown Talks Prison Sentence, Credits Screw and H.A.W.K
JAN 15, 2017by NEWHOUSTONMUSICOUTLETin VIDEO

[Watch New Houston Music Outlet’s Exclusive Interview with Tow Down] He goes by the moniker, “The Texas Tycoon”. You might know him as “Mr Country Rap Tune”. That’s right, Houston Hip Hop veteran, Tow Down did a recent interview with NHMO at the Support Local Music Awards. Watch the full interview above.

“Country Rap Tune”- Where It All Begins

In our interview with Tow Down, he credits legends DJ Screw, and Big H.A.W.K for helping him get started in the music business. He credits that without their collaborations he may have not been able to enjoy having a career in music as opposed to dope dealing. One of his most popular songs featured the S.U.C (Screwed Up Click) legend, the late Big H.A.W.K.

A New Beginning

After getting caught up with the law for running a multi-million dollar marijuana grow-house out of his Sienna Plantation home, Tow Down was released early prior to serving a 60-month sentence in federal prison. Luckily for Houston, Mr Country Rap Tune is back like he never left and states in our interview that more music is on the way. In his 97.9 The Box Interview, he states explicitly what all went down in this very interesting talk on the Madd Hatta MorningShow.

Tow Down states that more music will be released and that he is in the works of signing with a major label this year. More lies ahead, and we as well as H-Town will be anticipating this. As for Tow Down, he’s currently recording more music and is actively pursuing motivational/ public speaking. He speaks to young children about how they can put their mind towards anything they want to do. - New Houston Music Outlet

Bio

The Texas Tycoon

Tow Down started rapping when he was in middle school and went on to form the group, Thugs of Another Kind, in high school. Their self-titled album was released in 1998 on D.I.M.E. Records. After learning the difficulties first hand of managing multiple personalities in a group, Tow Down decided to branch off into a solo career. He landed hard with his debut album, By Prescription Only."The single from that album, “Country Rap Tune”, charted at radio and positioned him as an artist to watch. He followed up with Slowed N’ Throwed (2001), Chicken Fried Steak (2002), Diamonds and Tattoos w/ OG Ron C (2008), which were all self-produced in his state-of-the-art room he built from the ground up with his brother and business partner, Bernard Theriot. The Den Recording Studio, gained a reputation as a mecca for a host of independent Houston bands and rappers as well as many mainstream hip hop and rap artists on an international scale. His client list reads like a Billboard who’s-who, growing to include the likes of Paul Wall, Lil Wayne, UGK, Slim Thug, Mike Jones, Lil Flip, DJ Screw, H.A.W.K., Lil’ Keke, Willie D, Z-Ro and Beyoncé, among others. His music, engineering and production acclaim was just hitting its peak when he was busted for growing pot. While attending the 2010 MTV Music Awards, Tow Down’s house and headquarters was raided by federal agents. In one fell swoop, everything that they had built so far came crashing down. Like most everything else Tow Down does in life, his marijuana business was on a grand scale, and with a grow operation that was valued at over $10 million a year, he and his brother were looking at major time. He received a sentence of sixty-one months (just over five years) and his promising career seemed like it might be over. Never one to step back, even in the face of adversity, Tow Down took this as an opportunity to grow musically and help others in the process. While in prison, he established a music program to help other inmates learn to play, write and record music. By the time he was released, he had written enough new material to fill several albums. He jumped straight back into the studio as soon as possible and the results are just about ready for the big reveal. 2017 is shaping up to be a year of rebirth for the prolific and talented artist/engineer/producer, and with a comeback of this magnitude, the world can’t help but take notice.
