"Meet TroyLLF, The Rap Entrepreneur Distributing His Music In A Unique Way"

If you haven’t heard the name TroyLLF, prepare to hear it more often throughout 2021. This rising rap artist has been consistently grinding for the past decade and it’s finally paying off. Initially a member of the collective “Legends Live Forever,” formed in 2006, the group released several mixtapes and over time have been able to develop a brand. In 2013, the group set out to work on individual projects. Now, the San Francisco artist is bearing the fruits of his labor with this new, yet familiar approach he’s taking to market his music.

With this project Free Play 4, he took the direct-to-consumer approach. Free Play 4 is not only a full-length project but an experience, a capsule, and an exclamation point in 2020. But to kick off the year of 2021, it has been circulating in the streets and on social media, where supporters can directly contact Troy through the Ryan Leslie created the app “Super Phone” andPurchase the album or merch.

The most popular piece attached to the experience is the “Free Play Package” which comes with a digital download of the album, a hard copy, an album t-shirt, and other miscellaneous items inside a custom cereal box that features the album artwork.

Speaking on his $100 music bundle, TroyLLF shared, “Music we feel has been undervalued for a while now. So we decided to raise the price of the art! We held the project from streaming services so we could exercise our “Direct To Consumer” Market. So The late Nipsey Hussle has definitely been an inspiration for the Idea. I’ve been following the steps he took when releasing Crenshaw & Mailbox money, how he had a limited amount for a certain price. He also utilized Ryan Leslie’s app “Superphone” which is something we’ve invested in that has allowed us to stay in contact with our supporters directly.”

He adds, “So with $100 on our end, it comes with a special edition cereal box packed with Autographed Merch, Music, and limited edition items. We Have 100 Cereal Box Packages priced at $100 each, or They can buy the Hard Copy (Signed) for $25 which comes with a digital download to keep. We just wanted to try something different. We’ve flirted with the idea of raising the price, and finding a way to give more than just music! This was the perfect time bet on ourselves.”

In regards to what his future will look like, TroyLL tells us, “In the near future I wanna own my own label. Really wanna take these next couple projects and being able to get in a situation, where we’d be able to get a partnership, be able to distribute on a major level and roll out my own artist and give them opportunities!”

He concludes, “I’m also looking to get into products. Master P has been a great example of staying relevant by creating things the people need and just expanding his brand, and I admire that. So definitely looking to get my hands into more businesses and expand.” - Irene Gonzales

"New Music: San Francisco Rapper TroyLLF Makes Noise With New ‘Free Play 4’ LP"

For the year 2020, rap artist TroyLLF had a goal of releasing five total projects which would include EP’s and Full-length projects. In January he released Poster Boy Troy 2, Followed by Muse Music in February, and Til Death Do Us Part 2 in April. In November, he released Muse Music 2, and ended the year with Free Play 4 by going direct to consumers.

Finally releasing the project to streaming, TroyLLF’s most recent project is a 10 track portrait of one of SF’s most incendiary voices come to life. Pairing diverse, left-field instrumentals with Troy’s own authoritative tone and arsenal of flows, his own psyche lives and breathes within the project; harbouring an innate darkness while retaining an insatiable appetite for mayhem. Following on from a wave of critical acclaim surrounding the tape, today it arrives to digital streaming.

Previously, supporters could directly contact Troy through the Ryan Leslie created the app “Super Phone” and cop new merch. "Multitalented Rap Artist TroyLLF Is Having A Phenomenal 2021"

TroyLLF, rising music artist, has big plans on the cards to start the year 2021 on a strong note. He excels in the art of delivering a good narrative and his music evokes emotions in his audience. For the past several years, he has done a wonderful job in the music world as he has impressed the audience with his music.

Born in San Francisco, California, the talented music artist is known in the music world with his stage name, TroyLLF. The music artist grew up under the influence of music lovers and it set a strong foundation for his journey in the music industry. Troy released his debut solo project Til Death Do Us Part in June 2013 followed by an immediate EP and as of recently, Troy has released 12 total projects with five being released in 2020!

We recently had the opportunity to interview TroyLLF in regards to creating music, his journey, as well as how he’s been able to thrive amidst the pandemic. Read our interview below.

Many musicians struggled to put out ample music, however, you on the other hand were able to put out multiple projects. What do you attribute to your success in doing so?

I think covid played a huge part in that honestly. To kick off 2020, the first project I released was “Poster Boy Troy 2”. Which actually was supposed to be released thanksgiving 2019, but got delayed due to some complications with cover art being finished. So by moving that to top of the year 2020, it in a way crowded the next release which was Muse Music which was already set for Valentine’s Day. But once those were out, the plan was to release 4th quarter! Once the pandemic hit, and things started closing down, it actually canceled video shoots we had that week that were scheduled. So after about a week or two, the studio we record at was deemed “essential” and was able to remain open, so we looked at it as a perfect opportunity to work on more music! We ended up finishing what turned out to be “Til Death do us Part 2” which released in April, and from there realized this pandemic might last a minute, we should get as much work in as possible! We decided with the time we had, we could knock out 5 with no problem! So that turned into our goal for the remaining part of the year!

In regards to creating music, how has your process changed amid the coronavirus pandemic?

The process just really made us plan a little better. We realized that shows wouldn’t be going on for a while, so being able to stack music was the goal. Really working on my craft, Putting ideas together and being patient is what it turned into. The pandemic was a gift and a curse all at the same time I think.

Free Play 4 will be your fifth full-length project over the course of this past year, how does it differ from your previous works?

I feel like Free Play 4 is a more complete version of where I am today. The previous projects in 2020 were shorter versions with Poster Boy Troy 2 Being 5 songs, Muse Music being 6, TDDUP being 10 (the exception) & Muse Music 2 being 5 songs. The production on Free Play 4 is was a lot more hands on by bringing in HollaTheTruth, Mickey T, & Selam Sound just name a couple. The process was just more fit with the idea of treating it like an Album.

As far as creativity and inspiration, where do you go for that these days?

I try to live a little during these times. Been able to do some light traveling to clear my mind. Be in different spaces that have helped me kinda gain some creative inspiration and kept me busy! But also, I tap into a lot of life experiences to be able paint pictures lyrically. Being able to get in the studio with the team and create has been helpful as well. Working with Yasi the R&B singer I’ve been working with and mentoring, Poo$ie another young rapper outta Oakland by way of New Orleans, as well as King Tahoe & my manger Scino. We’re always on the phone, or in the emails with ideas, concepts, whatever when it comes to creating. So I’ve been blessed to say the least to have the energy around.

Not only that, but you were able to sell $100 copies of the physical project. What inspired you to do that?

Well technically, it wasn’t just the $100 copies. It’s an actual package we put together and priced at $100. Music we feel has been undervalued for a while now. He also utilized Ryan Leslie’s app “Superphone” which is something we’ve invested in that has allowed us to stay in contact with our supporters directly. So with $100 on our end, it comes with a special edition cereal box packed with Autographed Merch, Music, and limited edition items. We Have 100 Cereal Box Packages priced at $100 each, or They can buy the Hard Copy (Signed) for $25 which comes with a digital download to keep.

What else can your fans expect from you for the remainder of the year?

This year is really about rebranding. Bringing the music, bringing more experiences to the consumers and changing the way the independent artist hustle. I’m currently working on a Collab project with the artist Poo$ie “Life + Times” which should be out likely summer 2021. Looking to roll out a New Label “Free Play Music Group” with a some new energy behind it so I’m excited about that.

Non Music related, look out for the project level x forever 21 second collaboration hittin shelves this summer! - Jennifer Ross

"Futuristic Dreamers Critiques Troy from LLF's Free Play Mixtape!"

The first track “Dopeness” featuring Merk S. Villain is a hard track that hooks you to want to know what else Troy from Legends Live Forever has to offer. Both emcees come at the microphone with some raw and on-point verses for their fans and listeners to template on, while listening to the smooth and jazzy instrumental. Before the Free Play Mixtape came out I was ready for some new music by Troy and I am HELLA ready for his upcoming album, if you don’t know who he is or what his music is about… WAKE UP AND GO CLICK THAT PLAY BUTTON! If you have been rockin’ with Troy and his old mixtapes or singles you will know that he did threw on some old tracks on this mixtape. The second track “Smooth Criminal” featuring DB and Lyrical Tone, both from Legends Live Forever group, all three emcees provide some dope lines such as “… look real recognize real we don’t know ya…” The hook was hella catchy and might get you hooked to continue listening to this track plus the beat knocks that you know it’s a straight slapper that carries that Bay Area sound! The third track “On Ya Helmet” isn’t a track but an interlude. The fourth track “Talk My Shit” featuring Ya Boy if you haven’t checked this track yet you have been SLEEPING!!! This track is a straight slapper with the beat, hook and verses by Troy and Ya Boy, this track SLAPS! I’m not kidding if you guys are from the BAY AREA and you don’t know this track you need to step your music game up! The fifth track “DeadFaces” featuring Ball and Hunnid Favors is still a slapper but is more gritty and grimy with the theme of seeing “dead people” as you can tell by the title of the track. Even though this track is old you can still bump this track as if it is a new track that just came out! I feel as if the hook of this track could be in one of the “Walking Dead” episode. The sixth track “Ima User” featuring Alier Johnson and by looking at the track title and introduction you can tell what the track is about. But this track puts me in a certain mood to sway back and forth or even lay on the ground and lay my laptop against a dining room table while listening to this song. This track made me do that and I’m not a user at all but this track gives me that certain feeling and after I feel hella relax that before, so be sure to listen to this track!!! The seventh track “Wake Up” featuring bE! From the Change Up Entertainment, Ooh! This track from the start is hella on point and a straight slapper. The line “…heaven tryin’ paintin’ pictures for u…” that made me love this track even more! The eighth track “Too Blessed” featuring Space Cadet and Lyrical Tone, I enjoyed listening to this track because the hook took me away from problems I face on a daily basis and this track was hella chill and made me feel that people forget what they have and that they are blessed too! I love the line “… hella faded in SFC never even knew the Giants get 3 up in the lab tryin’ to do the same thing” I loved hearing that!! The ninth track “Goddess” featuring Marley Mcnealy has more of an R&B feel to this track with the love verses and hook. This is definitely considered “grown folk music” has a touch of old school instrumental as well. Marley reminds me of Toni Toni Toni by how he sings the hook “Body …” you have to listen to this soulful love song!!! The tenth track “Real Shit” is hella gritty and more serious of what Troy is when it comes to music and his group LLF, and I love the other tracks on this mixtape but this is my favorite track! This track is for those who rock with real people and only serious people who will do the same thing for them, I can relate and I am glad Troy wrote, recorded and put this track on his mixtape! The beat is hella underground and the instrumentals are ON POINT from the start to the end of this track! You need to bumpin’ this track if you know how it is to only want to connect with or hang with the realest. The eleventh track “That Guy That Nobody Knew SKIT” this isn’t a track but another interlude and I am glad because this skit was worth listening to because it made sense of why he put this on his mixtape! Nobody knew that guy was until now… And that will soon happen to TROY from LLF! The twelfth track “Getting’ It” featuring Space Cadet and Lyrical Tone, is another track to not sleep on because it is ON FIRE you don’t want to miss out on these emcees spittin’ some real verses on this track. The hook, “I be getting’ it…” made me want to continue listening to the tracks of what this track was all about. I was bobbing my head up and down while listening to what all of these local artists had to say on this track all I had to say is that the track is FIRE! The thirteenth track “The Era” featuring Isaiah Eugene and Merk S. Villain this track is hella smooth with chill verses provided by these emcees. I also enjoyed the light hook with Biggie’s voice echoing “…just watch and take notes” this is another track worth listening to! If you don’t know any of these emcees you are missing out on real music by real artists! The last track “Live For” is something I was not expecting, the beat is different from the other 13 tracks on this mixtape! But it is a good shocker because it made see even more of growth from Troy as an artist and can’t wait to see what he will showcase on his upcoming album that drops soon!!! So stay tune! If you guys download this mixtape and any of his old music you need to spread the word! - Jerica of Futuristic Dreamers
