Even though Xay Charles is from Brooklyn, this song reminds me of the classics from the old Stax label—especially their heyday during the late 60s/early 70s.

This is what you leave on when you’re at the back of the club at 3AM, almost everybody’s gone home, except for yourself and a few ladies waiting for some magic.

The vocals scream soul, but when Xay Charles launches into rapping, he does so with such a smoothness. He’s so smooth, you could cut the air with a butter knife. The laser synths and tickled organs heat up the atmosphere, and you just know you’re in good hands. Rounding out the instrumentation is some walking bass that’s so subtle, you almost don’t notice it—but when you do, you’re thankful.
