"Praise For Wallflower"

Your Sister’s Canary is a blues influenced pop rock group from northern New Jersey capable of cranking out some very powerful and gripping tunes. Earlier this year, we received a band submission (via our submission page) for a group called Your Sister’s Canary. Having been a bit put off from their peculiar title and vague biography, my image of these guys was quickly turned around once I heard the tracks streaming on their myspace page. They label themselves as being blues, pop and jazz - and I can certainly hear why. They seem to be capable of belting out some pretty catchy pop rock tunes, but the blues influence is definitely there, adding an extra powerful kick to each track. As of this past summer, they have recently recorded and released a “double-sided single” entitled Bread & Butter, which is available for purchase from the Snocap player on their myspace page. You can hear one of these singles, “Bread,” streaming below. In addition to the new tracks, they seem to have a handful of their older tracks available for free download via their purevolume site. They also seem to perform live as frequently as possible, so definitely check out their tour dates if you like what you hear! - Praise For Wallflower

"The Deli Magazine"

Jazz-infused rock at The Bitter End on 06.21: Your Sister’s Canary - The Deli Magazine

"Ladies and Gentlemen...Your Sister's Canary"

This Glen Rock, NJ based trio, is quietly changing the perception of blues within the local underground scene. With the recent release of their debut album, “Bread and Butter“, Your Sister’s Canary have begun to gain a growing appreciation, largely due to their innovative blues infused indie rock.

With the mature lived-in blues voice of Rob Natale, and the bouncing soul rhythm from Josh Edsall (bass) and Jordan Chiolis (drums); each song on their debut album recalls the haunting moans of the Delta, the boisterous pop melodies of the Talking Heads, and the rawhide power of the Black Keys.

Your Sister’s Canary have decimated the seemingly inventible blues trap of a repetition, with their evocative vocal arrangements melded within visceral blues scales. This novel simplicity is indicative of their debut album’s name, "Bread and Butter" - essential minimalism.

If you are interested in witnessing one of their high energy performances, Your Sister’s Canary will be performing January 15 at the Quadrant in Easton, Pennsylvania, and on February 26 at the Bitter End in New York, NY.

"Your Sister's Canary @ The Bitter End 08/19/10"

Scene 1. A young female enters a dimly lit bar in downtown New York. A man offers her a drink, but she doesn't notice. Her eyes are transfixed unto this band on stage. A band with style and creativity. Enter, Your Sister's Canary.

I had heard about Your Sister's Canary from a close friend of mine. Upon hearing them I was surprised, pleasantly surprised. I had to ask him "this band is from Jersey? really?" There are certain things we expect from the local music scene around here. This style and this creativity is something I didn't think I could come across. Naturally, I was excited to finally see them live.

The band played this past Thursday night at a bar on Bleecker St. in New York called The Bitter End. Its a really great venue. The ambiance is welcoming, cool and chill. Sort of venue for jam bands and songwriters. Its an 18+ venue and definitely attracts a more older crowd. Watching the band set up was interesting. They set up the usual stuff like drums and amps, but also brought along some suitcases, an attractive looking armchair and side table with a lamp. I was beyond curious to see what they had planned. Then I got my hands on these hand-made pamphlets they were giving out. All the songs they were playing that night were listed in it, but they were listed as if they were putting on a play. Each song representing a different scene. They even had someone sitting in the armchair mentioned earlier. He sat there the entire set and his emotions went along with the songs and what were written in the pamphlet. The play told the story of a man who meets a woman, heartbreak and temptation ensues. I thought it was a great idea and concept. It added more depth to an otherwise regular show. The band put on a great set. They were full of energy and sang with smiling faces. They were such snazzy dressers too. Sporting things like suspenders and bow-ties. Watching their performance was refreshing. They are a breath of fresh air, thats what they are. Their songs make you want to dance around in your seat and bob your head. The band itself has a bluesy feel to it. Bluesy, but so good. One girl that night even went as far as saying "they're a mix of Lep Zeppelin and Jack White." Maybe it was the alcohol? Who knows, but I'll let you be the judge. They still manage to have roaring guitar solos and catchy melodies in their songs. Songs that one can easily sing along to. I say if you're looking to spend a chill night in the city, catch some good music and possibly throw back a few drinks, head to Your Sister's Canary next show. Bring friends, it'll be a good time. - Weakend Warriors

Bio

"Three guys with as much control over their groove as they do with their epic themes, the bands smooth rock anthems make me think of Local Natives, if Local Natives had jazz chops. Latest record Good and Alone takes the band to new heights, and might make you wonder why youre still able to catch them at smaller venues."
