"YUS – NOWADAYS (Pop/Electronica – US)"

Out of his home in Phoenix, Yus makes music that perfectly blends pop, electronica and hip hop. With his guitar, a few keyboards and a lot of creativity, the young musician manages to come up with straightforward, yet highly intricate tunes.

After a few relatively quiet months, Yus is back with brand new single”Nowadays”, released on October 11th. Written, performed, produced and mastered by Yus himself, the new track is also the first release on his label Manneken Records.
Bonus track: here is Yus’ take on The Dø’s “Bohemian Dances”…

"YUS : "Nowadays""

My friend who records under the name YUS just started a new record label and dropped an amazing single all in one press release. "Nowadays" is the first song released on the new Manneken Records, and it really blew my mind. The song has already been spun by Mary Anne Hobbs, so get on it. - West Coast Fix

"Introducing...YUS"

Today I got a tip off for Phoenix USA based artist YUS. He’s been getting some buzz from the likes of Mary-Anne Hobbs over here in the UK and his music is testament to why. ‘Nowadays’ is a beautiful shimmering dream pop song, with a touch of the psychedelic about it. He’s also a prolific remixer; I really like his remix of James Blake’s ‘Wilhelm Scream’. - The Mahogany Blog

"Yus: Throwaway"

Now we’re settled happily into an era where listening to music has become a thoroughly throwaway activity, the playing field has been levelled to an extent.

“It’s fine,” we think, collectively, “to listen to this song once, enjoy it to its fullest and then never touch it again.”

There are a whole host of questions regarding the longevity of musician’s careers that relate to this mindset, but for now, this is what we have and as such, everyone is pitching in and producing songs.

My point is that this slightly unfulfilling environment has allowed people – people like Yus – to release the songs that might never have been given a chance previously.

ndefited (lower case obligatory) is another song defiant in its simplicity, drawing its engaging, blissful feel purely from a few well-placed chord changes via well-chosen electronic buzzing sounds.

Swirling sounds spin within washes of other noises, losing touch with where they originated, and gaining new chaotic characteristics.

What emerges is half-song, half-long, wheezing sigh; of the sort you might emit on a fiendishly hot day and figure that actually everything is going to be OK after all.

In ndefited, Yus merely confirms those thoughts. Nice.

"Cloudcorner // June 18th 2011"

I know what you’re thinking, not another song about girls; yet Phoenix-based Youceff Kabal, under his pseudonym Yus, has produced an electro-pop masterpiece. Swamped with reverb, melancholy and melody, 20 year old Youceff may just have created the perfect summer pop-song.

"Yus – Girls"

Phoenix’s Youceff Kabal is Yus, and he sounds to me very like Perry Farrell, the way he did on ‘Classic Girl’ from ‘Ritual De Lo Habitual’. The similarity works well, especially in the context of Yus’s home-baked electronic ditties. The surprising thing is that Kabal keeps the quality uniformly high on his free release ‘Palms‘, a work that also displays a good deal of variety. True, it might sound a tad tinny in places but not many can produce this many winning ideas from the confines of their living room. KD - Mp3 Hugger

"Monday Music – 5 September 2011"

Phoenix native Yus (aka Youceff Kabal) sent me a link to his (free) album of experimental electronica and my first thought, upon hearing the groggy loops, bass-burdened beats and crackly vocals, was that he’d spent too long out in the Arizona Desert. But subsequent listenings have seen the seductive, weirdsville purrs comfort, distract and delight me, to the point where I listen with the rapt attention of the addict watching his next fix being measured out. It overwhelms me, it floods over me. - Some Of It Was True

"Yus"

A worthy comeback to indie (electronic) with Yus. You can download / buy his album at Bandcamp! - Musigh

"YUS – PALMS (HipHop/Electronica – US)"

Coming straight from the hot plains of Arizona, Youceff Kabal is the artist behind new hip hop electronica project yus. Out of his home in Phoenix, the young musician makes music that perfectly blends pop, electronica and hip hop. With his guitar, a few keyboards and a lot of creativity he manages to come up with some killer tunes that are further enhanced by his highly processed vocals.
The eight synth-based songs that make up his debut album Palms may seem simplistic at first but they reveal new elements with every listen, forcing you to play the album on repeat until you’ve extracted every drop of sound. The intricate beat/synths structure Kabal’s plaintive, metallic vocals say a lot more than you’d think at first listen.
yus – Don’t Talk
yus – Time
Palms was self-produced and self-released digitally on Bandcamp in November 2010. Following the early success of this debut, yus decided to release a companion album including all the early versions of the songs. This B-side album of sorts, Besides, revolves around yus’ guitar and feels more organic and immediate than Palms. Check out the charmingly naive summer ballad “Girls” below…

"Quick Hits: yus"

Phoenix’s Youceff Kabal sent me a fairly to the point email the other nicely suggesting his music in which he goes by yus. yus has a full LP palms and a b-sides LP that are both pretty sweet/simple electronic pop. Youceff’s voice is what does it for me (or makes me pay attention I guess) – its different and not in a bad way. Also he doesn’t try to get too cute – pretty much just rocks the straight forward synths and beats. Dig it for free on his bandcamp. Meanwhile… - Pasta Primavera
