Bio

The band started in 2008, when members Adam Stewart and JD Biddle formed the duo, ‘The Backwoods Terror’. Covering a wide range of songs as well as writing a few originals, the two saw potential in the sound they had discovered. Stewart recruited Aaron Stevens, a friend and co-worker, to join Biddle on guitar. The three set out to record a short demo, and asked Derek Brown to add bass on the recordings. Feeling they were still missing something, the band scraped the recordings. Brown switched to the drums, and the band asked friend Ryan Brown to fill in on bass. Now being able to practice and write with a fuller sound, the band began forming its own sound, and soon began booking shows at small venues around the area. Stevens left the band due to differences in direction, so the line-up was switched again. Stewart on vocals and bass, Biddle on rhythm guitar, (R)Brown on lead, and (D)Brown on drums. With the new lineup, the guys decided to rename themselves 29 Horses, and were more focused than ever to get their name and sound out to the public. They recorded the demo ‘Women, Whiskey, Guns, and Truth’ in early ’09. The shows continued and their name began spreading. Biddle and (R)Brown attended Western Kentucky University, and soon the band was making the trip to play shows around campus as well. Things began slowing down around early 2013. The guitarists were beginning to pursue their careers, Stewart enlisted in the army, and (D)Brown began a family. An informal hiatus was taken so the guys could focus on getting these aspects of their lives in order. Now, the guys realize that the need for the band still exists.

29 Horses’ music comes from a very diverse background, spanning all genres and periods. Notable influences are Lucero, Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, and The Beatles. Their sound is a gritty mix of southern rock, outlaw country, and classic rock’n’roll. Themes in their songs include loneliness, friendship, resilience, and defiance. At the core of the bands music is the desire to help people through tough times, offering a realistic yet poetic point of view through Stewarts lyrics.
