"A Lily Gray - The Fall"

A Lily Gray
The Fall EP
Self-Released
Street: 05.01.12
A Lily Gray = Dead Letter Circus + Ashes Divide
Local rock group A Lily Gray has released a solid and highly enjoyable EP with The Fall. The album is ethereal and emotive, a bit more complex than most standard rock, but not quite stepping into any “progressive” territory, and has a strong foundation in the complementary sound of the music with singer David Lynn’s unique and far-reaching, clean vocals. Woven throughout and underneath are clear lines of influence from Tool and Deftones, and some sections also conjure shades of Shinedown. “The Fall” is their strongest single track on this four-song EP, with a supremely catchy melody and guitar work reminiscent of Billy Howerdel’s upbeat, string-tripping style. (Really, fans of any of Howerdel’s projects would not be disappointed.) There is a great, heavy ending to the EP’s closer “Adaline” that makes me excited to hear more from this group’s secret stash. A Lily Gray is a group that has a cohesive vision, passionate delivery and a bright future.

"A Lily Gray - Waiting Room"

A Lily Gray
Waiting Room
Self-Released
Street: 11.29.13
A Lily Gray = Ashes Divide + Karnivool
Polished, local alt-rock group A Lily Gray returns with another teaser of an EP that will get you salivating for a full album from this quintet. I am a huge fan of the melodies this band is able to build on tracks like “Gone Away” that are simultaneously uplifting and sorrowful. The track “Velvet Letter” is, overall, the weakest of the four (a subjective measurement, certainly), sounding somewhat repetitive aside from the sweet ripping guitar solo bridge. David Lynn’s vocals continue to impress with his clear and passionate delivery, made all the more powerful by his band’s ability to construct thoughtful composition around him. These guys just flat-out know how to make a beautiful, self-aware rock album. –Megan Kennedy - SLUG Magazine, Megan Kennedy

"A Lily Gray Brings Promise To The Music Scene"

Local band A Lily Gray performed twice recently at The Royal, September 26th and October 10th and rocked the joint with an amazing force of musical power. Having not heard them live yet, a small shock of the talent and well-made Alternative/Progressive rock, hit with the first song. The promise of a good show through that first song did not turn out to be a tease.

A Lily Gray sounded impressively awesome, especially considering they had to compensate for the lack of their bass player, who got stuck in Chicago. They also sounded great despite the fact that the venue’s PA system could have used a bit of tweaking. David Lynn’s vocals are soothing to ears, yet full of an intensity that forces the mind to want to know the lyrical story he’s telling. A combination that takes a certain talent to achieve, which Lynn seems to do with ease. The expressive conveyances on his face and emanating through his movements were fascinating to watch. Suni Alles is nothing short of a guitar-playing mesocyclone. The finger work he displays is like that of a supernatural being with super-speed and agility. The guitar certainly adds an exciting piece of rhythm. Benjamin Frank’s drumming was rhythmically adept and adds such a depth to the songs.

The second time around was no less awesome but even a bit more so, thanks to the bass player being present. Justin Clark’s bass playing was incredibly skilled and definitely what made the music complete. Hearing them live with the bass caused a realization that there really was something missing at the last show. It seemed Lynn also had his rock-out partner back as well, as both swayed hard to their own musical creations. A Lily Gray’s tunes are similar to that of Sick Puppies or Trapt. They can be found on Social Media sites such as Facebook, ReverbNation and Twitter. Although, the best way to get to know their music is live. - Examiner.com, Natalie Jones
