"Alyse Young will soon have us feeling it all"

Singer-songwriter Alyse Young from Lafayette has been taking action to follow her musical dreams since she was only 7 years old.

Throughout her childhood, many family members would play music, so she was constantly surrounded by it.

Preceding her takeoff in high school, she would see other artists perform locally and fantasized about performing at coffee shops, restaurants, or practically anywhere she could showcase her passion. With the overwhelming love and help from her family and friends, she reached a milestone in her career and began performing in local business around Lafayette.

It was with the support from those aforementioned and a kind high school teacher that pushed and motivated her to branch out and take a big leap as a sophomore in high school.

Since then she has performed many shows around Lafayette and surrounding areas, has been previewed on 106.3 Radio Lafayette, uploaded multiple covers to YouTube and revealed herself through her lyrics.

Her greatest inspiration for music is Taylor Swift and she’s been described as having vocal similarities to Billie Eilish and Colbie Caillat. However, Young has created a sound unique to her with influences from jazz, country, adult contemporary and pop alternative.

Her mellow voice and bubbly personality really define her music and we should expect a lot more of that in her new release, “Feel It All.”

This EP tells the personal story of her latest heartbreak. “Feel It All” has been described as “relatable” and that probably has a lot to do with the fact that Young has never before been so vulnerable and exposed as she was for this EP.

This project is a window into her feelings, her mind, her heart, and over the story of love and endings.

Young confesses that her music has become a sort of therapy for her and hopes that people will feel more connected to her through this new project.

“It’s like a diary,” she explains.

Since music has been such a prominent factor throughout her entire life, she will continue to share her story through the only way she’s ever known: music.

Behind-the-scenes in this entire journey is Young’s mother, or “momager”. Her mother has been helping Young since the very beginning by booking shows, spreading her projects, and setting up her equipment for performances.

Now that Young is older, she is able to do many of these things on her own, but it was her mother who set her on the right path.

Although she stays busy with her studies at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, she is constantly making moves to stay involved with her music either through performances in local restaurants and clothing stores, or

"Young songwriter headed to Florida festival"

Forgive Alyse Young if she is a little quiet when conversing about music.

This 15-year-old singer and songwriter, who already has two CDs and numerous local performances under her belt, prefers putting her message in lyrics.

Music just seems to be a natural part of her life.

“I don’t really know. I just started doing it,” said Young on her fondness for songs. “I like the response I get and being able to write songs. I just like it. It’s fun. I like performing.”

Young will soon expand the reach of her voice when she performs at the 30A Songwriters Festival Jan. 15-17 in South Walton, Florida.

The event features 150 songwriters performing in local theaters, restaurants, town halls and patios, in front of crowds ranging from 75 people to 4,000.

Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Jackson Browne, known for such hits as “Running on Empty,” “Take It Easy” and “Somebody’s Baby,” headlines the festival.

Grace Potter, Shovels & Rope and Ani DiFranco are among the artists scheduled to perform.

Young landed a spot at the festival through an online application.

“I sent in some music and a bio,” said Young, who attends Lafayette High School. “I think there were over 400 people that applied and they chose 100.

“I’m the youngest one. That was kind of cool.”

The festival is another accomplishment for a young musician who has turned heads since early childhood.

The daughter of Johnathan and Mollean Young, Alyse remembers singing around the house as a child and taking her first guitar lessons at age 7.

Young started writing songs at 11 and by 14, she composed her debut album, “Unrequited Love.” This year, she followed up with an EP of five original songs, “Unfamiliar.”

In 2014, Young won a songwriter competition at Artmosphere Bistro and performed an original to win the Lafayette High talent show this year. Her success opened the doors to live performances at local restaurants and festivals.

Veteran educator Jane Vidrine and musician/studio owner Travis Matte are two of Young’s biggest fans.

Vidrine, Young’s guitar instructor in middle school, said she possesses talent beyond her years.

“When Alyse became my guitar student at L. J. Alleman, I was immediately blown away by the maturity of her songwriting,” said Vidrine, a Grammy nominee with the Magnolia Sisters. “I tried to give hear as many opportunities as I could for her to perform, stretch her musical abilities, and to explore diverse musical genres.
"What impresses me most is her vision for herself and her music. I think she is going to make a mark as she develops even more in the coming years. I’d relish the chance to work with her again now that she is older.”

Matte, who recorded both of Young’s CDs at his Kingpin Studio in Scott, was impressed by her emotions and natural voice.

“Unlike most artists that we hear on radio that are almost all using studio tricks and help to a huge degree, Alyse never used Auto-Tune or anything of that nature,” said Matte. “What you hear on record is her natural voice and talent.

“To top it off, she is super cool.”

Young hopes to hone her talent and skills for a long time.

“I’d like to be able to make a career out of it, or at least do songwriting,” said Young. “But I’d love to do performances and go on a tour and just have people hear my music.” - The Advertiser

"Alyse Young debuts new album - Unfamiliar"

Acadiana’s own Alyse Young (sophomore at Lafayette High) unveiled Unfamiliar, a five song acoustic EP. A follow up to her debut album, Unrequited Love, released last year, her latest work is an acoustic album with thoughtful melodies and lyrics about relationships and is performed with mellow, soothing vocals. Inspired by personal experience, this album has an indie folk sound influenced by Ed Sheeran, Vance Joy, The Lumineers and Mumford & Sons.

Alyse started playing guitar at the age of 7 and began writing songs at 11. Over time, she persistently continued to write and hone her skills, finally sharing a few of her works with her chorus teacher (from L.J. Alleman School), who encouraged her to record an album. She took her advice, recording her first album at Travis Matte’s Kingpin Studios and then started to network throughout the community and play local gigs.

Alyse is gradually establishing a notable resume. At 15, she already has several years of public performances under her belt at local restaurants and festivals — sharing her originals and her unique laid-back interpretations of cover songs with her audiences. She won a songwriter competition at Artmosphere last fall, a Talent Show at Lafayette High School, was a top 5 finalist in The Times of Acadiana Best of 2015 (Best Local Original Music Solo category), and her songs are being played on local radio.

Young promotes herself through social media, where she has a strong following. Her music is for sale at her shows. Her albums can also be found at Lafayette Music and online via iTunes, Spotify, Amazon and Google Play. She uses her revenue to purchase more equipment and to save for a car that will aid her in transporting herself to gigs. She tells FACE, “I’d like to continue to write and perform. I’m curious to see where it takes me. It would be a dream come true if I could make a successful career from my music.”

“I feel really fortunate to live in this area. There are a lot of live music venues and festivals around Lafayette. The community as a whole is really supportive of local artists and the variety of genres found around Acadiana.” - Face Magazine

Bio

Alyse's love of music began at an early age. By the time she was 5, she was already performing for family on her own pink, fuzzy carpeted stage built by her dad. Growing up with uncles and cousins who played guitar, Alyse was eager to learn. She started taking guitar lessons at the age of 7, and was writing songs at the age of 11.

Alyse released her debut album, Unrequited Love, when she was 14, followed by her acoustic EP, Unfamiliar, the next year. She won the 2014 Songwriter Competition at Artmosphere Bistro in Lafayette, the 2015 Lafayette High School talent show, and was a top 5 finalist in The Times of Acadiana Best of 2015 (Best Local Original Music Solo category).

Alyse was a semi-finalist in the 2015 International Songwriting Competition for her song 'As a Friend'. In 2016, she was the youngest performer at the 30A Songwriters Festival in South Walton FL. Later that year, she was one of ten artists chosen for the Emerging Talent Showcase at the 2016 Blast on the Bay Songwriters Festival in Port St Joe FL. In 2019, Alyse was selected as a finalist in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest in two different categories. 'Feel it All' was a finalist in the Folk category, and 'BBY' was a finalist in the Jazz category.
