Inspired by the boundless sky, American Trashbird transcends genre classification by instead pulling folk, blues, Americana, pop and country into a style they call “Monterey bird rock.”
“We draw inspiration from a motley pool of sources,” explains Daniel R. Cortes II, guitarist and drummer. “From Mozart to McCartney, Gorillaz to The Grateful Dead, B.B. King to Springsteen. The spirit of bird rock is about freedom of expression and creativity regardless of musical boundaries.”
The band, formed two years ago, is composed of Cortes with Kenny Chung on vocals and guitar, Alaina Musich on vocals, synth and keys, Rory Glass on bass and Justin Horrell on drums. They return from a performance hiatus (after Glass became a father) to play at The Lab. (A disclosure: Glass is also a graphic designer at the Weekly.)

American Trashbird is the newest arrangement of familiar faces (Kenny Chung, Rory Glass and others) in the Monterey music scene. This specific species of bird can often be heard singing in beautiful harmony, collecting rustic rhythms for their nest of trash and class. Pure and understated; somewhere between the quaint seaside villas and the middle american ghost town dive bars. Recycling forgotten refuse from the bins of blues rock, the richness of roots music, and some liberties with latin beats they have forged a cry of their own. - Monterey County Weekly

Bio
American Trashbird is an amalgamation of the American soundscape; a blend of synth and folk, blues and pop, jam and roots into Monterey Bird Rock. The 4-piece band formed two years ago and has since played numerous shows in the Monterey,CA area including their Halloween Trashbash along with Folktale Vineyards, "Live in the Vines" and Paraiso Vineyards, "Tunes, Trucks and Tastes". The band released their first EP, Treetops, on May 22, 2018.
