Bio

It would be safe to say, with two generations of musicians coming before him, that 21-year-old Alexandria native Alex Smith has music in his blood. With the influence from both his father, H.B. Smith, and grandfather, Alex himself learned the guitar when he was thirteen. He began performing his junior year of high school at Holy Savior Menard High School, when he would play for the school mass. Once out of high school, Alex found himself in Lafayette, where he was inspired by not only the local talent, but the number of performance opportunities available.

Alex’s musical career began humbly at the Quarters apartment complex, where he played for a small pool party. Unbeknownst to him, this small party happened to be attended by the manager of Dix’s Daiquiris. Alex was then offered to play a quick one-hour show at the local daiquiri shop. However, it was supposed to just be a small-time gig, but amazingly, Alex ended up packing the house, and that one hour set became a three hour showcase of a budding star.

After that, he began playing at some of Lafayette’s best-known venues, including Marley’s, City Bar, Jefferson Street Pub and many more. With his impressive talents, Alex became a local superstar, and was even invited to open for CMA New Artist of the Year nominee Brett Eldridge and Multi-Platinum artist Uncle Kracker both at The District.

Like many young country performers, Alex’s talents led him to the home of American country music: Nashville, Tennessee, where he spent the summer of 2014. It was there that he began working on releasing an EP, currently set to release December 11, 2015. Alex wanted to record his EP entirely in Nashville however, now only some will be recorded and produced there with the majority being produced locally to help create a warm dirty south country sound. Unfortunately, the EP had to be pushed back from the original February 2015 release date; however, Alex Will release a single, “Fomo” on February 5, 2015 in place of the EP.

This single will introduce to the world the Alex Smith Sound, a combination of urban trap beats, lively local atmospheres, southern hospitality, and a nostalgia that one can only experience on Music Row in Nashville. With classic country chord changes, blues influenced guitar riffs, and hip-hop influenced lyrics sung by Alex Smith’s rich southern-rooted voice, his single “Fomo” will sure not disappoint and leave fans begging for more.

Currently, Alex is performing every Monday night at Agave, but he is looking to extend his talents to the Baton Rouge and New Orleans areas. He is also looking to make the transition from solo artist to group artist, searching for a band to perform with. Starting in February 2015, Alex will be hosting “Music Mondays,” where he will release a new original song or cover to outlets such as Youtube and Soundcloud.
