"Silence Is Golden (Album Review)"

"Silence is Golden" is a special delivery from Atman. A hybrid of electronic, hip hop, rap, acid and indie. "Silence" has great production, lyrical content and fantastic word play. A must vibe to record. "Ceilings" is a mantra for all those opposed to conflict. Very powerful hook and heavy bass line. A beautiful piece of art. "Tell Me" is one of the illest presentations on this canvas. The opening draws you in but the picture is lyrically painted with the flow and the prance of his proverbs. "Thank God" is an eerie stroke of genius. A distinctive track proving that this artist is not cookie cutter by any means. Flow, production and word play are provocative. Every bar is thick. "Nightmares" is the sensual record in this arsenal. Beautiful musical composition and outstanding use of double-entendres. "Wake Up" will illuminate the fire under anyone's ass. A motivational Griot spits hard rhymes about grinding and pushing to accomplish your greatness. An inspirational anthem for those overcoming obstacles. "Ghost" goes hard. One of the few artists that actually owns a full grasps on a thesaurus. The syntax is brilliant and fresh. Voice inflection is wet and effortless. "Lose It" speaks to any talent's creative process during a session. Smooth and melodic tune great to chill to and allow your mind to contemplate. "Killer" is current and a true danger for the streets and clubs alike. Seamless lyrics, production and instrumentation. "Golden" is almost 24k. Everything around this piece screams, "Midas!"

In short Atman, is very reminiscent of tons of today's artists, including Eminem and Drake. Still, his vocal tone is slightly different from most and will carve his on the path. Overall, this artist's ability to captivate makes him special in an overcrowded sea of monotony. His marketability, sophistication, immense talent and innovation have earned him at the peak of this week's #360WatchList.

Experience for yourself #GlobalSociety.

"Who Is Atman?"

As you see yourself, Who Is Atman?

In High School, I had this incredible English teacher. He gave me the name Atman while we were reading the Scarlet Letter. I looked the name up and realized it was the biggest compliment I’ve ever received from a teacher. I’ve kept the name and never looked back. I’m from Rhode Island. Specifically, I’m from West Warwick, south of the City of Providence. I spent a lot of time in Pawtucket growing up, near Slater and Park Place. Rhode Island has been really good to me.

Who has been your greatest inspirations musically and why?

The majority of my inspirations stem from classical music. I spend a lot of my time listening to Frederic Chopin, he’s easily my greatest musical inspiration and influence. The Romantic Era captured sound in a way that few other periods of history have accomplished. As for a modern influence, I would say Andre 3000 and Outkast have always caught my ear and attention, without fail. Their free spirited approach to music is what I strive to capture in my art as well.

What do you feel you offer the music industry that we don't already have in other performers?

I would say I’m an exceptionally unique artist with a unique set of experiences. I’m the Producer, Writer, Artist, & Sound Engineer for the majority of my music. The music industry, and specifically rap, has been much more open to artists with a wider grasp of reality, ability, and life experiences. Right now, a lot of artists make a living in rap copying or imitating each other. What I intend to bring to the industry is a larger perspective of what rap can accomplish, inside and outside of the industry. As a performer, my goal is to present a new vision of music and art in Hip-Hop culture and rap music.

When can we expect some new music from you?

I’m making new music all the time, and we’re constantly updating new music to our website, www.iamatman.com. I’m usually locking it away in a vault to be released at a future date. I don’t like to release premature material. My plan is 2 albums a year, with a major single out every 3 months. In between that I will release free songs every few weeks. I have so much music available currently that the world is still catching up with, and I’m big on not releasing trash, so I take my time with the music.

What has been your greatest achievement so far?

In the music industry, my greatest achievement would be our record label, Spiritz Music Group. We’re in a position where we can control how our music is marketed, how it sounds, and how much money we make off of it. I’ve got several albums on iTunes and the finance goes straight into making our empire larger and more effective. Outside of the music industry, my greatest achievements would be my Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Science/Engineering. I love building robots.

If you could collaborate with one artist, living or dead, who would it be and why?

I’d collaborate with Missy Elliot. There’s something about how she approaches the track and album, she’s dripping with creativity. She always adds to the composition, never takes away from it, and it’s a consistent formula she has managed to put together. I’d have to collaborate with her. She has such a tried and true record of making great music.

Last but not least, HYPE wants to know...What's your CRAZIEST "Where they do that at?!" moment...

So I’m at the Future Concert in Providence earlier this year, I’m in the front row. Future’s in the middle of Karate Chop, and the whole crowd is going crazy. His music has a lot of genuine energy. I respect that. I’m with my people, and I happen to notice this girl isn’t jamming to any of the music. She’s kind of dope so I’m curious. I take a quick look at her phone and I slowly realize she’s taking pictures of her crotch and sending them to somebody. I immediately burst into laughter, shorty was really in the middle of a concert sending up the skirt shots to a person. Not sure where they do that at, but apparently they do that in my city.

I’d like to say thank you to Hype Magazine and Just Jay for giving me this fantastic opportunity. The HYPE Team puts forth a great effort to find the scoop on amazing artists, both on Major & Independent Labels, all over the world, & expose artists in a way that other magazines and blogs could not come close to matching. I’m very skeptical of most magazines, because they do not deliver results; Hype Magazine is not one of them. - The Hype Magazine
