"Behind the artist: Aundre Myles"

Q: Before we begin, we would like to say welcome and thank you for being here.
A: Thanks, It’s super dope being able to do this.

Q: What got you started in the music industry?
A: Probably getting my heart broken. When that happened, I remember feeling better when I could listen to certain songs. They spoke to me. Made me feel better. A big one was Troubles by Alicia Keys. That songs helped me through a lot. It’s just the way music helped me and made me feel, I wanted to be able to do that for someone else. Plus it’s just fun to create a piece of art and know that it’s something you made. Music can change lives.

Q: Who or what are some of your inspirations behind your music?
A: Well Alicia Keys for me was a big one, RnB has always had my heart was before Hip-Hop. And I think a lot of people really felt something from watching Eminem’s 8 Mile or 50 Cent’s Get Rich or Die Trying, they were both definitely a means for making me think of rapping. But as for actual artist influences that made me want to be a better artist and take it seriously? Mac Miller & J. Cole for sure. When KIDS & Friday Night Lights came out, it changed the way I wanted to be portrayed and the effort I put into my craft.

Q: Can you tell us about your debut song?
A: It wasn’t my debut song I released as Aundre Myles. But definitely the first one that really gained traction and brought attention to me was “Ten Toes”

Q: What’s something your musical venture has taught you so far?
A: It’s been a real eye-opener to say the least. You see who is really rocking with you and wants the best, and then you also see who fakes a smile at you when you’re passing by. Relationships of all kinds get tested and come and go in this career when you’re passionate about your work. There’s no time to be lazy, although I’ve definitely been guilty of that more times than not. Surrounding yourself with people on your same wavelength that are creative and want the same things you do definitely helps though. Just being around like-minded and genuine people. I love it though, If I can support myself doing this someday then I’ll be living my dreams.

Q: Who or what would you say has helped you the most on your musical journey?
A: I don’t mean this in a cocky way, but myself. So many people underestimate what they can accomplish by themselves. A lot of nights I’ll just be researching how to be a better artist, watching hip-hop blogs, studying marketing online, mixing vocals, and editing photos. Obviously I’ve learned from others, but I self-taught 90% of what I know by myself.

My parents showed me unconditional love and support in their own ways. My mom is a little less than thrilled that I spend so much time making music right now haha. Besides that, good friends are good friends. They’ll hype you up and want you to succeed and will help in any way they can, you can’t ask for more than that.

And lastly, the fans. I hope I’m using this term right haha, but they are the bread and butter of why I love being an artist. The messages I get sometimes just fuel me in a way nothing else can. I love it. I love knowing that my songs reach people and help them, whether they relate to it, or they just vibe to it while it’s playing. I just love seeing something I put my heart into take shape. Without the fans, my music would just be playing to an empty room.

Q: Where do you get your advice from when you need it?
A : Other artists and close friends mainly. I appreciate all the advice I’m given even if I don’t relate to it. Most people give advice because they think it will be beneficial to you. Most of the time, it is if you listen. I don’t know if it’s just because I’m a night owl, but I live for those 2am talks with people. For some reason, and maybe it’s just me, but they always seem more intimate and genuine.

Q: What are you currently up to?
A: Making music haha. I just moved into a new building to have a HQ for myself. We’re still building the studio, but it’ll be a place I can work, take photos, and store merchandise. I’m really excited to expand my music career like this.

Q: What’s something you can tell us about your projects to come?
A: You won’t know what to expect until you actually hear them. I feel like I make a lot of breakup or love songs, because that’s what I have the most experience with. I’ve gotten my heart broke so badly before, music has been an outlet for that. But I want to branch out a little. I want to bring something to the table that people just vibe to and appreciate.
The next project I’m releasing will be an EP called “Goodbye Love” We’ll start with that. I know a lot of people will love it and fee the message.

Q: Do you have a message for your fans?
A: Thank you. Thank you. And thank you again. I love you guys, really. The love and support I get so far is beyond crazy and I try to read every message and comment I get. You really push me to keep going and give me a purpose to keep creating music. Whether it’s 5 people or a packed house, I’ll perform for anyone that’s willing to listen.

Q: What advice can you give new artists out there?
A: Practice and patience. Don’t get discouraged. Not everyone, but a lot of people when they first start aren’t that good. They don’t know how to count bars or show a range of tones with their voice. It’s all learned just like any other art. Being bad at something doesn’t mean you’re bad, it means you have nothing but room to improve and get better. Do your research, practice, and learn from others and you’ll be on your way.

Much Love.
