Austin Troubadours

- The newest addition to the Texas Commission on the Arts Touring Roster, AUSTIN TROUBADOURS have been performing in some of the most prestigious concert venues in Texas since 2009.  Featuring Medieval and Renaissance Mediterranean instrumental and vocal music, Austin Troubadours combine various well known and obscure historical instruments with lush vocals. They produce a unique kaleidoscope of sound and texture, lending the audience an ever changing pallet of musical delights for the senses. Historically informed and inspired by years of musical experience, each member of the Austin Troubadours will delight and move audiences to tap their feet and hum tunes of antiquity.

NEW PROGRAM FOR 2016/17 - BALKAN CARAVAN (Early music from Macedonia, Serbia, Turkey and Greece, perfect for World Music Showcase, premiered in Austin in April of 2016 at sold out Carver Theatre)
           - The Austin Troubadours project started in January of 2009, but all the original members of the group have been involved in early music performances for decades. Artistic Director Slobodan Vujisic has performed in Europe extensively since the early 1980's, and viola da gamba player John Walters, in addition to directing AISD orchestras for 28 years, was a founding member of the first-ever Austin early music group Clearlite Waites.
- Slobodan Vujisic preformed, managed, and toured most of Europe with his early music group Ensemble Renaissance between 1981 and 1994 when he moved to Austin from his native Belgrade. During that time, performed in major concert halls in Europe including the Schauspielhous in Berlin, St. Marten Theatre in Paris, and the Dubrovnik Festival. In addition, the group released several CDs that became bestsellers in the Art Music category in Eastern Europe.
- Since arriving to Austin in 1994, Slobodan has performed with the University of Texas Early Music Ensemble, the Texas Early Music Project, and the Baroque Ensemble La Folia. In 2004, he was invited to perform and conduct master classes at the prestigious GuitarArt Festival in Belgrade. This event is what prompted Slobodan to create an early music super-group in Texas. After interviewing many musicians for the project, the final selection had resulted in this group of highly sought after musicians that include Austin Symphony members, UT faculty members, Fulbright scholars, and award-winning early music specialists.
- The Austin Troubadours' inaugural 2009 Texas Tour produced several successful Austin concerts and featured a Houston debut supported by the Houston Early Music organization. In addition, The Austin Troubadours have performed multiple concerts at The Wortham Theatre as part of the Revels Houston Medieval Show. They have appeared twice on Houston's NPR Radio Station KUHF 88.7 for their Front Row program and have had live appearances on TV channel 8 News, FOX news channel, and on KUT's Eclecticos show featuring John Aielli. In April 2010, they had a sold out concert at the First Presbyterian Church, with world-class soloists Kathryn Montoya and Angela Malek. In 2011, have provided music for The Tempest, of Austin Shakespeare at Long Center for Performing Arts. In March of 2015, they performed at the "Musical Bridges Around the World" festival at San Fernando Cathedral in San Antonio.
            - Their programs have been funded by the City of Austin through the Cultural Arts Division for the last four consecutive years. Their first CD,  "Mediterranean Journey", was released September 1st, 2012, and can be purchased or downloaded on ITunes, Amazon or CD Baby.
