"Do-It-Yourself Music Pioneer, Corderius “Awesomeisjayell’ Climpson is a Rising Rap Sensation"

“My music is for people who continue to persevere, no matter what.
It’s for people who refuse to give up. It’s for hope. It’s for Champions.”

– Awesomeisjayell

Corderius “Awesomeisjayell’ Climpson, also known as the #DIYMusicPioneer is a game-changer in the music industry thanks to his ability to write, produce, and publish all of his own music, through his production company, Yell-Air Sound. Originally from Atlanta, GA, Awesomeisjayell is no stranger to the music industry, dedicating over 15 years –and counting– to perfecting his craft.

In 2008, he saw much success as a member of the promising rap trio, The Lunch Break but after releasing two EPs, the group dissolved due to creative differences.

Now, embarking on his solo journey, Awesomeisjayell is dedicated to delivering his fans, often called “Champions” a new wave of music, with respect to hip-hop veterans that have paved the way for artists alike. In 2018, he started his own record label, music, and film production company, Yell-Air Sound. Since launching his solo music career, he has spent the last decade studying music theory, sound design, and innovating his music production.

During the summer of 2018, he released his self-titled debut album–Awesomeisjayell, across all digital streaming platforms. Since its debut, the album has garnered over 5,000 streams and counting. Here’s what he shared with me during his recent interview for Sheen.

What has 15 years in the Music Industry taught you about yourself?

These 15 years in the music industry taught me all about my biggest strengths and weaknesses and how to deal with them accordingly. Ultimately, I’ve learned that winning and losing is really the same thing, and your reaction to said results determine your character and longevity in this industry.

What do you feel are the necessary skills to create a hit single?

Vulnerability, authenticity, and integrity.

Vulnerability; because you have to be open to sharing your true feelings as an artist to create a hit single. Authenticity is needed because when you write the hit single, you need your true nature of what you’re saying to resonate with the audience. In order for it to translate as a hit to the audience, it needs to be truly you. Integrity goes hand in hand with authenticity because integrity has to be there because the song has to be in the means of your own personal integrity. You can’t make things up on the fly; it has to be completely true to you.

What are some of the ups and downs of the music industry?

The ups are learning, and the downs are learning, I say this because the majority of the time you learn in the industry, from your own mistakes. Learning from your own mistakes can either be a down or an up– depending on what the situation is. It also determines how far or how long you have to go before you learn that particular lesson.

What new music are you working on now?

New music I’m working on now pertains to #AwesomeFridayyy. This is my new campaign where I’m releasing new, original music– all produced, written, and released by my record label, Yell-Air Sound. Most recently, I released “GLASS” –which is a song I made giving thanks to the fact that I didn’t break during hard times and during the rough times. I’m giving God praise for helping me get through the hard times. It’s streaming everywhere music is sold.

Tell me about your record label, “Yell-Air Sound” and the creativity behind the name.

I pretty much came up with this idea while trying to think of a name for shoe design. When I came up with the name Yell-Air, it struck a chord with me. It was reminiscent of the show, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. The nostalgia from that made the name resonate with me and I decided to take it further and made it the name for my label.

What types of people do you feel will easily relate to the music you create?

I feel like all types, all kinds, all creeds, all ages will relate to my music. The reason why is because I make music from a vulnerable place and the fact that I make music from a vulnerable place, I know everyone will relate to it. I say this because, making music from a vulnerable place allows you to make music about your actual, real-life circumstances– which everyone goes through, and that’s the most relatable subject matter.

As a songwriter, how does the sound of music today make you feel in comparison to the music of the 90s?

The music today is way less vulnerable. People are scared to share their real feelings about things. They’re being pressured by society to act and be a certain way and it causes people to close off their true feelings, as opposed to opening up. For example, Tevin Campbells’ “Can We Talk, For A Minute” he wasn’t in the studio trying to make a hit. That was something that came straight from his heart. They were in there trying to portray his true feelings onto the record. - Sheen Magazine

"#DIYMusicPioneer Awesomeisjayell Sets His Own Stage Across Atlanta"

The rapid growth of social media has called for a creative twist on how to get your product or service in front of the right audience. This rapid change has impacted all industries– especially music. Of course, there’s nothing like being able to access all of your favorite artists, on-demand, using a music streaming platform— I’m more of an Apple Music type of girl myself– but nothing can replace a live music experience.

That’s why our client as seen in Sheen Magazine, rising rap sensation #DIYMusicPioneer Awesomeisjayell has been on a mission to bring the Awesomeisjayell experience to fans in real life, across popular venues here in Atlanta!

Awesomeisjayell, also known as the Do-It-Yourself Music Pioneer, is an Atlanta-native, bringing 10+ years of industry experience to his music career. After walking away from a music deal early in his career, Awesomeisjayell evolved into a music pioneer, eager to put in the groundwork to lay the proper foundation for himself as both a Music Artist and Entrepreneur.

With all the hype of internet sensations and rap artists emerging from clout-chasing antics, it’s rare to come across an artist who aims to stay true to the independent culture of what it means to build their fanbase from the ground up.

In his single, “ETHERNET” you can hear first-hand how Awesomeisjayell views the popular culture of “disrespect to get respect.”

Let’s just say– he’s choosing a higher road.

Although signing a deal seems like to easiest route to take as a rising music artist, Aweosmiesjayell finds joy in planting his own seeds and watching them grow. Since releasing his self-titled debut album, Awesomeisjayell, —he has written and produced 14+ original songs, published 6 music videos, and launched his own production company Yell-Air, which is comprised of three different divisions: sound, film, and design.

Awesomeisjayell is in it for the long-haul, and his commitment to both his creative integrity and building authentic relationships is what keeps the fire burning.

Above all, music is business. Its crucial for indie artists to make sure they are protecting their art and getting paid what their music is worth. Streaming services are the most popular ways users consume music, but what about the artist? How does the artist make sure he or she is getting paid properly? This process, takes time. In fact, research and restructuring is necessary to protect yourself as an artist.

After taking a 18-month break from live performances to lay a proper foundation for music distribution, Awesomeisjayell decided it was time to get back on stage. But, this was not so easy to do at the first few performances:

“The first two shows, I was getting back into the groove of things. But, then I tapped into the groove of what I was doing before. Rehearsal, rehearsal, rehearsal, performance.”

-Awesomeisjayell

So…. what’s next? Awesomeisjayell recently expanded his service offerings at Yell-Air to include video and sound production, as well as music consulting for indie artists looking to get their start in the music industry.

Awesomeisjayell will be performing TONIGHT at the all-new Whole Foods Market in Midtown Atlanta for an evening rooftop experience. For more information and bookings, please email us directly at info@giselleave.com or give us a call at 770.687.3841.

It’s officially SHOW season and you can stay up-to-date with the latest news from Awesomeisjayell by joining the Champions Newsletter on YELL-AIR.COM - Giselle Ave.

"Meet Corderius “Awesomeisjayell” Climpson"

Today we’d like to introduce you to Corderius “Awesomeisjayell” Climpson.

As a native of McDonough, GA located in Metro Atlanta, Awesomeisjayell is one of the few rappers coming out of Atlanta— who is actually from Atlanta! He attributes much of his appreciation of music to his parents’ taste level in music. His mother and father would always purchase the latest music released from the local music store in Atlanta, and it was almost like love at first listen.

“I remember when Outkast dropped Aquemini. My mom bought a copy of the tape and me and my brother used to listen to it while we played video games.

This is the most nostalgic memory I have about when I first started listening to rap music.” – Awesomeisjayell

Awesomeisjayell pays homage to legendary music pioneers including Outkast, Jay-Z, Prince, The Dungeon Family, and his all-time favorite, Michael Jackson. Eager to submerge himself in hip-hop, Awesomeisjayell began his rap career in 2004 under the name Jayell, which was derived from the combination of Jay- from Jay-Z; and ell, from the late Big L, an American hip-hop recording artist.

Today, Awesomeisjayell pairs melodic rhythmic vocals with catchy beats to give listeners a melodic rap sound and something to bounce to. His self-titled, debut album tells the story of how Awesomeisjayell spent the last decade focused on writing music, studying different melodies, and learning how to create a new sound using digital instruments. Listeners agree that Awesomeisjayell’s music is unlike anything you can find in the music industry today—and that’s what makes his music unique.

Has it been a smooth road?
No, this journey has not been smooth at all. Awesomeisjayell is no stranger to rap dreams turned reality. In the summer of 2008, Awesomeisjayell partnered with friends to form the Atlanta band, The Lunch Break. The Lunch Break was an Atlanta band that created a mashup of alternative and rap music. The band experienced much success during its tenure, including the release of two EP’s titled: Reduced Lunch EP (2010) and Meals on Mondays: Collection (2011). The Lunch Break also released an album titled Moonwalking On The Sun (2011). After gaining momentum, the band dissolved in 2011 due to extreme creative differences.

After the band dissolved, Awesomeisjayell continued perfecting his craft, but as a solo artist. He spent a decade perfecting his craft, from his parents’ home.

“I knew I had two options: move-out, pay rent and join the rat race or live with my parents, focus on my craft, and make great music that people will love. I worked a 9-5 and used that money to buy quality music equipment for my in-home studio.

It wasn’t easy, but I finally got to a point where I’m ready to share my music with anyone who needs it. My music is for the human experience, there’s something everyone can relate to.” – Awesomeisjayell

We’d love to hear more about your work.
Awesomeisjayell is the Founder and CEO of Yell-Air Sound, which is a production company and record label based here in ATL. Corderius is also the flagship artist, performing under the stage name Awesomeisjayell.

Also known as the do-it-yourself music pioneer, or #DIYMusicPioneer– Awesomeisjayell is deemed a changer in the music industry thanks to his ability to write, produce, and publish all of his own music, through his production company, Yell-Air Sound. Awesomeisjayell is no stranger to the music industry, dedicating over 15 years –and counting– to perfecting his craft.

“My music is for people who continue to persevere, no matter what.
It’s for people who refuse to give up. It’s for hope. It’s for Champions.” – Awesomeisjayell

What are the biggest barriers or obstacles to overcome when entering the music industry?
I’d say there are there are many ups and downs breaking into the music industry.

The ups and downs of the music industry are—give me a second to think about that one. The ups are learning, and the downs are learning, haha. I say this because the majority of times you learn in the industry, from your own mistakes. Learning from your own mistakes can either be a down or an up–depending on what the situation is. It also determines how far or how long you have to go; before you learn that particular lesson.

For example, it may be a UP for you to sign a record deal that you finally wanted. Something you’ve been hoping to get. But, it’s also a DOWN if two years later, you find out that the record deal you got turned out to be a bad deal. Therefore, you learn from your own mistakes. Learning essentially can be an up and a down.

Always learn from your mistakes and never stop putting in the work for your dreams. - Voyage ATL
