"Why We Like It: Shyland Flowers’ “Gone When the Sun Comes Up”"

I’m going to be blunt: this song is strange – and I mean that in the absolute best way. Oscillating between groovy and fragmentary, “Gone When the Sun Comes Up” is a muddled sonic experience that blends genre in a truly intriguing way. To contextualize the concept, this track is reminiscent of certain fantastical sounds heard in the music of Damian Albarn’s Gorillaz. The most fascinating aspect of this song is how it morphs and evolves during the verses to an atmospheric, industrial vignette that would leave most rappers clueless. But this is where Shyland Flowers shines: his flows ground an unstructured soundscape, providing an edge that makes this song a singular experience. His delivery provides the perfect contrast to the vocals and production elsewhere in the track. Since we’ve begun accepting submissions here on CentralSauce, we’ve received over 600 songs. “Gone When the Sun Comes Up” is the most distinctive of them all. -

Alternative rapper, songwriter and producer Shyland Flowers has returned with his latest single ‘World’s Worst Boyfriend’.

The track sees the artist eschew his usual witty punchlines, in favour of emotion and reflection. ‘World’s Worst Boyfriends’ biggest asset lies within in its way to skirt between being emotional and nuanced while also having brash hip-hop roots. A measured beat and contrasting acoustic guitars providing a calm balance between the slick and thoughtful. In short, ‘World’s Worst Boyfriend’ is a promising emotional step forward for the upcoming artist. - BornMusic

Shyland Flowers is an alternative rapper, songwriter, and producer whose strong vocal Presence and witty Punch-lines frequently applied to his heavy and sometimes lavish productions, resemble a distinctive cross between Big K.R.I.T and Common. Originally, Shyland is from Washington, D. C. His family relocated to South Carolina when he was seven. Shyland's parents exposed him to many different types of music, the cool tones of R&B & the rich tones of hip-hop. Shyland was immediately enthralled in the intricate yet culturally inclusive ways of the hip-hop atmosphere. Although, he has spent most of his time in the south his native northern roots still leak into his music to make him the artist he is today.
