Branson Bell is the President of The Jazz Society, WSU Big Band II Director and a guest student conductor for the WSU Wind Symphony. Branson was nominated for the positive and supportive role he provides to the students around him under his leadership

Branson came to WSU with the hopes of gaining experience in teaching and working with students. “This Universities student first mindset offered multiple opportunities to lead, teach and learn with other students and teachers.” Said, Branson. When asked about his involvement at WSU, he shared “Your involvement in leadership and student organizations at WSU is what you will remember the most, once you are ready for the next phase of your life. The principles you learn and obstacles you overcome with your team, and with your students will be the achievements that propel you into your career. Don't miss out on those opportunities!”. When asked what being a leader meant to him, he shared "I personally believe anyone has the potential to be a successful leader. As long as those you serve come first. We find the most happiness when we achieve any form of positive progression. If our first thought is to help those we serve to achieve progression, then those we work with will be happy and we can be successful." Slim and Story For Her were composed as a part of a project that presented music written for developing bands.  The pieces were are accompanied by research detailing their pedagogical and musical value.  The Project was completed as partial completion for Branson Bell's Masters Degree at Washington State University.  Members of the committee include Doctor Greg Yasinitsky, who has written hundreds of works and is regarded as one of the leading big band composers for developing bands. The committee also includes Professor Horace Alexander Young, who is known for his extensive career as a performing musician, having played with musicians such as B.B. King, Freddy Fender, Jonathan Butler, Mccoy Tyner, Sam Hopkins, and more.  These pieces are crafted specifically for all big band leaders and directors in need of music that can edify both their bands and thier audiences.

Musician, Composer, Bandleader, and Educator, Branson Bell strives to assist every one he meets to become a better version of themselves.  His music is straightforward, understandable, and relatable.  At the 2019 Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival, his band was said to display “an excellent approach to blend in sound and tone quality.”  Branson received recognition for his composition Slim, which was performed by the award winning Washington State University (WSU) Jazz Big Band.  In April of 2020, Branson received the WSU Student Leader of the Month award for his work with the WSU Jazz Band II and the WSU Wind Ensemble.

Branson is currently progressing through a MA at Washington State University where he works as a Teaching Assistant.  His roles at the university include assisting in Jazz History, music appreciation courses, and directing the WSU Big Band II.  Branson studies composition with Doctor Greg Yasinitsky, saxophone performance with Professor Horace Alexander Young, and conducting with Doctor Dan Pham.  His research focuses on the differentiation and pedagogical techniques required for directing and composing for developing jazz bands.  Members of his Masters committee include Doctors Greg Yasinitsky, Martin King, Dave Turnbull, and Professor Horace Alexander Young.

Branson’s main goal in life is to bring people of all cultures and backgrounds together.  In his words, music is the only language that connects all race, culture, and religion.  Through his career, Branson has promoted suicide awareness and safe place procedures for his students.  To him the word educator is the most important part of his title.  His students are a part of his family.
