"Potent Magazine"

...their creative, international style of dance music includes reggaeton and dancehall beats fused with classic Colombian and Indian style instruments. - Reggae Meets Cumbia

"Candelaria updates traditional cumbia"

They, too, boast a charismatic lead singer, in this case Stephani Garcia Candelaria, and if the current cumbia resurgence continues to gain in popularity, they’ll be in a good position to take their traditional/modern fusion sound to the next level. - Oakland Local

"The Hard Data"

But there's also been a whole local parallel underground scene that's been widely ignored in the blogosphere maybe because they tend to aim more towards the roots and traditional cumbia, rather than the cutting-edge experimental and/or DJ-oriented stuff.
Candelaria somehow dwells in between these two scenes and appeals almost equally to both crowds. - DJ Juan Data

"Candelaira: Cumbia-Dub Pa'Gozar"

The dub effects are looped in live on stage by Mixmaster Jesse Sheehan to draw on each track and send the crowd into a dancing frenzy. Accompanied by the lead singer Stephani Garcia Candelaria and her ability to drop low or lift up the high notes, the music sets the stage for an entertaining party. Or as the drummer Rafael Herrera likes to put it, “Bailable!” - Sounds and Colours

"It's a Trap! 7 new songs that will capture you"

"We love it!" - NPR Alt Latino

"Joe McGuire-DJ Pleasuremaker"

Afrolicious was off the hook yet again last night!!
Thanks to Candelaria for bringin' such a tasty blend of styles in a danceable mix - Afrolicious

Candelaria combines the infectious rhythms of traditional Colombian cumbia with the dub reggae techniques of the Jamaican studio masters. Bucking the modern trend of programmed beats and computer effects, all of Candelaria's music and effects are 100% live and organic, all performed in real time on stage. This 6 piece, female fronted world dance band brings together experienced musicians from Mexico, Canada, Colombia, Puerto Rico and the United States. Truly independent, Candelaria wrote, recorded, mixed, and mastered their debut CD at their own studio in Oakland CA which was recentely featured on NPR's Alt Latino as an emerging latin band to watch. Candelaria has recently joined with grammy nominated producer Greg Landau for their upcoming album "Bien Good" due to be released in February.    Their irresistible combination of the traditional with the modern has moved crowds at up and down the west coast, Mexico, the Midwest and at festivals like the Sierra Nevada World Music Festival, The Mateel Community Center Summer Arts Festival, UC Davis Whole Earth Festival, Blissfest, San Francisco Carnival, and the Women in the Redwoods Festival. They have shared the stage with legends such as Jimmy Cliff, Celso Pina, Toto la Momposina, Bomba Estereo, Bituaya, La Santa Cecilia, and Pato Banton. Candelaria is sure to turn any gathering into a world music dance celebration.
