"New Track: Gazoota - Desert Movie"

Since the release of their self-titled EP in mid-February, Fullerton five-piece Gazoota has become a legitimate mainstay in the Orange County show scene, honing in their intricately constructed, yet equally expansive, sound for listening pleasure. Comprised of Adam Hill, Josh Stephens, Ezra Snider, Aaron Eldridge, and Daniel Mccarthy, the band utilizes a wide array of musicianship, tribal drumbeats, and pinpoint production as a means to further its interpretation of what seems to be a blend of psych-rock-pop. And although limited in terms of show experience, Gazoota’s decision to perfect and release a full body of work before performing live has actually enhanced their professionalism. This is not your old-run-of-the-mill, throw it together after work band; these cats fully have the ability to impact a burgeoning OC music scene.

The band’s namesake is a reference to a humorous scene in Jack Kerouac’s soul-searching novel “On the Road”, which seems fitting as the group has a knack for evoking thoughtful, emotional, and introspective responses from their works. In the track “Desert Movie”, lead vocalist Hill bellows “tonight we are the future” to accompany persistent drum-beats that are reminiscent of Radiohead arrangements. At the half way point, the chorus that was precisely measured with a containing bass and guitar, erupts in an incendiary outburst that showcases their aforementioned musicianship. Couple this with vocals that’s oscillate between 90’s alternative rock and sweeting swinging La-Super Group Local Natives, “Desert Movie” becomes a standout in an overlooked release. Gazoota’s future is bright — check them out on soundcloud, facebook, and twitter. - Speak Volumes
