I like to write about what I don't quite understand in life because I feel like once it's on the page, in a song, it's as close as I'll ever get to making sense of it. Songwriting for me is a mystery, and I hope to keep it that way. It's funny how it has no rhythm, and yet so much rhythm is born of what it brings. The day I can produce songs exactly how I mean to is the day that I begin to seriously wonder about my songwriting.
I grew up mostly in Eugene, Oregon, but I've found that most of my music isn't based on specific places. I find it hard to put place-names in songs, or hard to put songs into place-names more like. But I'm jealous of those songwriters who do it well.
