"Jiana Hunter Ella Fitzgerald Tribute"

Vocalist Jiana Hunter will perform the works of Ella Fitzgerald in this month's jazz tribute. Jiana is a music educator and presenter who has taught at Visible Music School, Oakland University, Arts League of Michigan, Middle Tennessee State University, Stax Music Academy, Shelby County Schools, and St. Georges Independent Schools.
She's performed alongside Steve Lee, Prime Cut Band, and Bamboo Forest, among others, in addition to performing in various sponsored events by Memphis Music Commission, Dizzy Bird Jazz Lounge, and national corporations.


About Jiana Hunter:
Jiana Hunter received her Bachelor of Music Education degree from Kentucky State University and a Master of Music degree in Jazz Studies Performance (Voice) from Western Michigan University. Having journeyed from Motown to the Memphis by way of Cincinnati, Ohio, Jiana has been a music educator and presenter for Music Educator Association Conferences in Ohio, Michigan and Tennessee. Special topics include: artistry, genre authenticity, vocal health and state presence.

Jiana served as the Vocal Division Head of Visible Music College, Professor of Vocal Jazz at
Oakland University, Jazz Voice instructor for Arts League of Michigan and master class
presenter at Middle Tennessee State University hosted by Dr. Cedric Dent. (Take 6) Jiana has also taught choral and/or vocal jazz for the dynamic, community and student-centered program of Stax Music Academy, Shelby County Schools and St. Georges Independent Schools.

Active in the music community, Jiana can be found singing lead and backing vocalist in the
genres of Pop, Soul, Jazz, Gospel/Praise and Worship and Gospel Jazz. Locally, Jiana has
performed alongside of Steve Lee, Prime Cut Band and Bamboo Forest in addition to various sponsored events by Memphis Music Commission, Dizzy Bird Jazz Lounge and national corporations.

Jiana has performed with notable musical imprints such as Darmon Meader, Billy Hart, Bobby McFerrin, Pastor Marvin L. Winans (Perfecting Church), Michael F. Mack, Dorinda Clark Cole, Jonathan Dunn, Tamela Mann, Donnie McClurkin, Donald Lawrence, Phil Perry, Maysa, Anthony Hamilton, Eric Roberson and KEM.

Ms. Hunter is an active songwriter and arranger. Her arrangements have been performed and/or recorded with students from Gold Company (WMU), The School for Creative and Performing Arts, (Cinti, Ohio) Marvin L. Winans Academy of Performing Arts (Detroit, Mi) and Stax Music Academy.

Jiana released her first Gospel Jazz single “True Love” (on a digital media outlets) from her
upcoming debut album “For You.” - Crosstown Arts

Bio

Jiana Hunter is a vocalist, songwriter and Commercial Music artist who features the following subgenres: Soul, Jazz, Gospel/Praise and Worship, Classical and Music Theatre.  Jiana is a formerly trained Music Educator of Choral music and Vocal Jazz. She holds degrees in Jazz Studies performance (MM – Western Michigan University) and Music Education (BME – Kentucky State University). 

As a music educator and presenter of various genres of music, Jiana is currently the Vocal Jazz Director for the new Vocal Jazz division of the Memphis Jazz Workshop in Memphis, Tn.  

Ms. Hunter has taught at Visible Music School, Oakland University, Arts League of Michigan, Stax Music Academy, Shelby County Schools, St. Georges Independent Schools. The School for Creative and Performing Arts in Cincinnati, Ohio and Marvin L. Winans Academy of Performing Arts in Detroit, Michigan.  She also hosts music workshops for churches and universities on vocal technique and music style. (Notably Middle Tennessee State University hosted by Cedric Dent)

To her featured Jazz credits,  Jiana performed and produced an Ella Fitzgerald Tribute concert as a part of a legendary jazz series hosted by Crosstown Arts.  Jiana also performed in the first Jazz Musical, The Real Ambassadors, a story based on Louis Armstrong as the U.S. Ambassador who toured with his band and a female vocalist, Carmen McRae.  

Active in the music community as a diverse vocalist,  Jiana coined a Monthly Series of entertainment called, “Thankful Thursdays” where she features good vibes and encouragement through Soul, Jazz and Inspirational selections.  Jiana is active in the jazz scene of Memphis, Tn. and has performed along-side of Steve Lee, Prime Cut Band, and Bamboo Forest in addition to various sponsored events by Memphis Music Commission, Dizzy Bird Jazz Lounge and national corporations.  

 Ms. Hunter is an active songwriter and arranger. Available on all digital music platforms, Jiana’s her first Gospel Jazz single “True Love” gives a glimpse of her spiritual, traditional and smooth jazz influences.   Her forthcoming debut  album entitled “For You” will take you on a delightful, musical and spiritual inspired journey!
