Bio

The Magic City Hippies began as a one-man band playing for the co-ed party scene on the streets of Miami–serenading the 20-somethings with classic hip hop covers and original tunes. After months of stealing electricity to power a loop-based sidewalk setup, Robby Hunter caught the attention of the local dive bars and landed himself several regular gigs.

Eventually, Robby recruited multi-instrumentalists Pat Howard and John Coughlin to form the Robby Hunter Band. Under this name, Robby and the boys released Magic City Hippies, which included the Hype Machine topping “Corazon,” as well as indie hits “Hard On Me” and “BUST.” Playing a mix of dance-able covers and soulful originals, RHB spread from venue to venue across Miami, as well rocking the stage at unticketed SXSW shows two years in a row (among other out of state festival dates).

Encouraged by the international reach of their infectious music, they decided to expand their sound and approach with the better-fitting moniker Magic City Hippies. Under this new name, they released their second record, Hippie Castle EP. The lead track on the EP, “Fanfare,” was met with even greater enthusiasm and popularity, making it to the #1 spot on the Spotify Top 50 Viral Playlists for US, UK, and Canada.

After a well-received debut in New York City in late 2015, the Magic City Hippies are currently in the studio producing more of their indie funk for their next full LP.
