The best kept secret in music

"Album review: Old James “Speak Volumes”"

This Canadian trio of musicians just jam their way through this terrific album. It seems almost effortless, but there is obviously heaps of talent and hard work behind this album. “Speak Volumes” is an album that has a live-in-the-studio kind of feel. It sounds like a bunch of chums playing away in a rehearsal studio, putting it on tape and releasing it as an album. Fabulous!

Old James is intense, riff-happy and hard-hitting blues-based rock music with groove and attitude. But most of all, it is a trio which loves what it does. - Rappongi Rocks

Old James is a rock and roll band currently based in Ottawa, Canada. the group is comprised of Vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Brian Stephenson, lead guitar player Joe Fraser, and drummer Chris Stephenson, whom all have previous experience in both classical rock and metal. Decided to come together and fuse their love of blues infused riffs of the 70's and the heaviness of metal into a new group Old James, releasing a self titled EP in 2014, and their debut studio album "Speak Volumes" in 2017. The group has toured successfully across North America, and are on their way to becoming a dominant force within the rock genre.

Musically, they take inspiration from Legendary Bands such as Lynyrd Skynyrd, Black Sabbath, and Motörhead. Old James songs are fast, loud, and to the point, spreading their message of peace, honesty, and speaking their truth. They are known for putting on a rowdy and energetic show, and having uncompromisingly honest lyrics. In a few short years the group has been able to create a unique sound that you can instantly recognize as their own, as they fuse rock, blues, jazz, and metal, all the while trying to bring back some of the mystery back to rock and roll.
