"Bent Jetty - Honest Approach"

If I had to choose something constructive to say in a critical way, it'd be that this EP is simply too short. I want more songs. - The Equal Ground

"Bedroom Jamming with Bent Jetty"

Last year was one of growth for the band: They graduated to studio recording for their second EP, Honest Approach, which featured the talents of session drummer Jay Smith. The young band also started booking live shows at such South County venues as Knuckleheads, the OC Tavern and Coach House.

In a few weeks, Bent Jetty will be crashing into the studio again to start the process of recording their first full-length album, for which they will select from 16 songs made tight by recent live appearances. The record will once again incorporate the grooves of Smith, as well as their latest band addition, Eric Ehlers, on drums. - OC Weekly

Bent Jetty: A Moment of Reflection

The Band-

The origin story of Bent Jetty is a tad cliché. The four core members of Wyatt, Matt, Christian and Greg have known each other since high school. [Insert high-school-band-line here] However, our musical exploits did not begin until college. Glorious days of free expression abounded, and as our understanding of the world grew, so did our creativity. Translate to: late night jams at house parties rock! Everyone has a moderate to strong buzz going and the audiences consist of co-eds asking for Third Eye Blind covers. The idea of Bent Jetty didn’t take shape until after graduation when Wyatt, Greg and Matt released a home recorded effort called Honey Be Wild in 2012. Following quickly behind was the addition of Christian and a yearlong development process culminating in the release of Honest Approach in 2013.

Bent Jetty is currently working on a debut LP (title TBD), which we hope will be released by early 2015. The material is a mixture of old and new that has been influenced by live experience and impassioned writing sessions. Recent exploits include shows at The Foundation Room (HOB, Hollywood), The Coach House in Orange County, and OC Weekly's Decadence Festival.

The Music-

Defining Bent Jetty’s style is a little like that Forrest Gump line (y’know, something about boxes and chocolates). Tired of the typical one band = one sound approach, we decided to commit to weaving a diverse sonic tapestry. The goal is to give the listener a completely different experience with every song. Think of the feeling when you put on an album and you can’t tell when one track begins and the previous one ends; we want to inspire the opposite.

Each member brings different influences to the table to create our overall style. The uninitiated may think they are hearing different bands playing with each new track, but the more invested listeners will be able to pick out the nuances that define Bent Jetty. What sets us apart is our wholehearted investment into whatever style we play. On a track like Figure it Out we commit to rock and roll. Rock music, no matter what form it takes, gives the audience a head bobbing, jock tingling experience. Basically, a damn good time. Pop tracks like Songbird are hook heavy, stuck-in-your-head, dance-y numbers. The Medicine You Like is a folksier tune embedded with story and swing. To round out events we bring indie affectations into songs like In Love Again, and try to push conventions.

The modern music lover takes full advantage of the information age by consuming all genres and artists with equal voracity. We hope to satisfy their music ADD with a collection unlike any they have heard before.

Cheers,

BJ
